Warren's ($1000) souvenir wine bottle pops up in big donor debate

WASHINGTON (AP) — On a Saturday evening in June 2018, with temperatures in the 70s and the Red Sox playing at Fenway Park, supporters of Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren gathered at the City Winery Boston for a fundraiser.
They were treated to songs by the Grammy-winning artist Melissa Etheridge and heard remarks from Warren, who was months away from announcing her campaign for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. For the top donors, those who could contribute or raise $5,400 per couple or $2,700 a person, there was a VIP photo reception and premium seating. For them and others who gave at least $1,000, there was also a gift: a souvenir wine bottle.

In Thursday night’s Democratic presidential debate in Los Angeles, Warren lit into rival Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, for attending a fundraiser at a “wine cave” in California’s Napa Valley where he dined and sipped under a chandelier with Swarovski crystals and where a novelty large bottle of wine can cost $900.
“Billionaires in wine caves should not pick the next president of the United States,” Warren said. Later, she added, “I do not sell access to my time.”

As a White House contender, Warren has made a conversion to spurn big-dollar donor events like the one in Boston. It’s an effort to burnish her appeal as a can’t-be-bought candidate with deep grassroots support, a point of pride she used to bludgeon Buttigieg.
But some see her transition from a prolific force on the donor circuit to a presidential hopeful who has tried to curb others from doing much the same as less than noble.

BTW, have you seen that invitation to her high dollar fundraiser in Manhattan when she ran for Senate in 2012? One of the hosts/hostesses was Linda Fairstein, who oversaw the prosecution of the Central Park Five!

Price of admission? At least $1,000 but recommended contribution was $5,000.

Doing a fundraiser with the prosuctor of the Center Park 5 is going to hurt her with older African Americans.

Especially when the rapist was identified in 2002 and all the cases were vacated that year.

I love Warren but this is a fumble.

The CP 5 was not a close issue architecture.

I am guessing this was part of The learning curve, wish she hadn't attacked on this issue.

really need GOP enemies, with some of the "friends" who love to post negative articles about her here.

If we really do want to post negative articles, there are LOTS of things that could be posted about other candidates as well. And they are about things that actually are affecting us all in negative ways even now. I'm not sure whether a souvenir wine bottle has actually harmed any of us - ever.

I personally have refrained from posting such articles, although in a true debate they should be addressed. You can bet your bottom dollar that they WILL be raised in the GE ... and to great effect.

My policy on posting such could change if the dis-ingenuousness among some here continues. Just sayin' ....
