Democratic Primaries

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden attempted to clarify his recent announcement that he'd refuse to comply with a subpoena should the Senate issue one forcing his testimony in the impeachment hearing.
The former vice president made the initial remarks in a recent interview with the editorial board of the Des Moines Register. His statements comes as some Senate Republicans are calling for Biden and his son Hunter to testify in the impeachment trial.
"I want to clarify something I said yesterday. In my 40 years in public life, I have always complied with a lawful order and in my eight years as VP, my office unlike Donald Trump and Mike Pence cooperated with legitimate congressional oversight requests," Biden tweeted Saturday morning. "But I am just not going to pretend that there is any legal basis for Republican subpoenas for my testimony in the impeachment trial. That is the point I was making yesterday and I reiterate: this impeachment is about Trumps conduct, not mine."

Biden went on to say that the Senate should subpoena White House officials who were witnesses to "Trumps shaking down the Ukraine government."

(5,376 posts)The polls show all candidates significantly below 30% support in the polls, splitting the vote, and having no candidate outright winning enough delegates to get the 2020 nomination. So far.
Just a "clarification". lol
We will know after Super Tuesday if any candidate has over 50% of the delegates at that point or not.
If Biden has more delegates than Warren and Sanders combined after super Tuesday, it's over, he will be the nominee.
If not, it will remain an open question.

(24,121 posts)and VOLUNTEER to testify at Dolt45's Impeachment hearing, since he obviously did nothing wrong, and SLAM the PEE-resident in his testimony, clobbering the a-hole for his traitorous crimes.
Joe might even improve his chances against Bernie in the Democratic primary if he did that, though I think Joe would still lose to Bernie.

(7,509 posts)Republicans were looking for an excuse not to call up relevant witnesses, and Joe just handed them a gift.
He could have proven he had nothing to hide and tarred Trump on national TV, but instead Biden gave the trumpanzees all sorts of ammo.

(11,242 posts)where do we come up with the idea that the Senate needs a "legal basis?" They can subpoena the weatherman or the ice cream vendor if they want to. And law abiding citizens show up!

(144,919 posts)It will take 51 votes in the Senate to issue a subpoena for Joe to testify. If that happens, Joe will testify but it will also be clear that the Senate is not interested in conducting a fair trial

(23,329 posts)He still didnt say he would comply or that he would defer to anyones judgment on that than his own. His citation of past practice doesnt, to me, confirm anything.
I dont see why he should necessarily comply.
