Sessions and Kavanaugh during their respective hearings? The couldn't-be-more-obvious benefit is she's African American—FYI: from the Democratic Party's most loyal base demographic and of which no candidate can win without, and she's a woman—FYI: do I have to remind you, half the population are women, many of whom want to see one of their own finally being among the most powerful people in the world?

Harris was quite popular, is well qualified as a senator and former AG, and is now a national figure after running in a national race for nearly a year.

Her benefits FAR outweigh any minor "baggage" from the campaign. I cannot think of a single person who could be named for the office of VP who would come with less "baggage." The ones who haven't been running are for the most part not well known and not ready to be VP to a 78-year-old president--which may matter to many voters. Harris would be.

That means securing Minnesota (which will be in play) plus winning WI, PA, and MI.

Klobuchar is the best asset to help win these critical states.

Plus we'd likely win in Arizona and might tip some other red states.

We need to be strategic and win the electoral college.

After a win, we will need a VP who can help move legislation through Congress. Who better than Klobuchar to join Biden in getting bills passed.

And who better to be Joe's partner? A person he can trust and give big jobs?

Those college students need "excitement" in order to get out to vote against Trump are probably not the block who should determine the pick. Just saying.

Also bothers me a lot - what staff said about her bad disposition.

That said, I suppose she might help in MN, agree. Do think she's a doer and can push through legislation...I guess? She's got some on burner now she couldn't push through already, doesn't she?

I totally doubt Biden (if he's nominee) would pick her....strikes me he'd (or any other candidate) be thinking there could be some nagging in future?

She has proved that. One of the best Senators in that regard.

I appreciate her humor and I'm not looking to elect a comedian in any case.

We lost MI, WI, and PA in 2016. That cost us the election. With a good economy this will be a very tough race. Biden is a great candidate for winning MI, WI, and PA and in my estimation Kloubachar helps in those states.

And Arizona. Maybe NC, FL, and TX.

Strong women are often accused of having "bad dispositions." I'm not buying it.

I'm not seeing anyone else who comes close to fulfilling the three needs we have in 2020. One, helping to secure the win in the EC. Two, moving legislation post-victory. And three, having a great relationship built on mutual trust with the President who could had off big jobs.

Biden will want someone who will fill the same roles he did for President Obama. Klobachar is the best suited in my opinion.

I do think Klobuchar fits the bill of what Biden will want/need from a nominee better than any of the alternatives on my radar screen.

We need to win. Once we do that we will need to pass legislation, including a Public Option. A VP like Amy Klobachar could be a vital ally. She is obviously competent, smart, and has the ability to work with others.

In my estimation Klobuchar is the best choice to help Biden with the win. He is popular in these states (MI, WI, MN, and PA) and she is icing on the cake. She helps and doesn't hurt us in these states.

When you say "anyone would be great" post-victory, what your standard of measure?

Mine is, who has the personal relations, temperament, and experience of moving legislation through the Senate? And I'm not seeing an alternative who matches her qualities. She is a very effective legislator. Passing a Public Option would be a huge step forward and it is doable.

And I think she's someone who could be a great partner to a President Biden.

Hitting these 3 points is critical for the VP pick in my estimation.

I really don't know much about her legal career, but given her stance/dedication on voters' rights, and her experience in her own campaign, I think appointing her as Atty General would send a clear message.

This is certainly putting the cart before the horse. Never-the-less, it would seem prudent for him to pick a VP orator that might be prepared to offer something different than, say, a Neil Kinnock echo.

Biden has the resumé of a Vice President and is perfectly qualified for that roll. I'm hoping for a nominee that represents a different generation or a different gender or at least new ideas.

Those are my guesses: Biden’s running mate has to be a woman and has to be someone with the kind of resume (governor or US senator) usually required for a president. Stacey Abrams’s tenure in the Georgia legislature is simply not enough. (I might add that I think Pete Buttigieg’s time as South Bend mayor is also not enough. Talented guy, but he jumped the gun.)

Mon Dec 30, 2019, 08:30 AM
Dec 2019

In my opinion, HClinton pick for VP, Sen Tim Kaine (VA) while a really nice guy, he did little for her ticket. Yes, she won VA, [13 electoral votes] but it wasn't enough. If she had chosen a woman [warren, harris ]and or a person of color we wouldn't have the odious racist know-nothing now occupying the WH. While Beto is popular in TX he did not beat Cruz for senator, so can he bring in TX as a VP pick? I prefer a Warren/Harris ticket because it's time we put women in charge, not because they are women but because they are both highly qualified to do the job; their ticket will energize voter turnout.

Here's the six states with the most electors are California (55), Texas (38), New York (29), Florida (29), Illinois (20), and Pennsylvania (20).

more this time. A prez candidate can't just go with a nonoffensive type this time. Always seemed like a certain amount of vanity involved too (no one who will outshine me).

But picking based on gender or race is completely wrong this time. IMHO. We have to assess the swing States and who can help the most.

Yes, Beto did lose - but has built an amazing network here. And he CAN energize youth which will help everywhere.

See Biden Beto ("BB" for gun vote as a perfect team. Experience, wisdom, dignity mixed with the future of energy and optimism.

If woman, just 100% write TX off, sadly.

... someone not a white man. Obama picked Biden to reassure reluctant white voters aka Reagan Democrats aka fly-over Americans aka whatever. Biden knows about balancing the ticket. I read Reagan didn't like Bush above... true, the Reagans did not care much for the Bushes. The Reagans were perceived as ultra-conservative and picked the "liberal" Bush to balance the ticket! Now, I'm not sure Biden is on the same side of the scale as he was when Obama picked him... how times change...
