Bernie Sanders is in 'good health' after heart attack, doctor says in summary of health

By Annie Grayer and Ryan Nobles, CNN
Updated 2:37 PM ET, Mon December 30, 2019

Excerpt:

(CNN) - Sen. Bernie Sanders is in "good health," nearly three months after suffering a heart attack, the attending physician at the US Capitol said in a letter released Monday.

The physician, Brian Monahan, said in a summary of the Vermont senator's health that Sanders is no longer taking several of the medications initially prescribed to him after the heart attack.

"Several of the medications you initially required (blood-thinner, beta blocker) were stopped based on your progress," Monahan wrote. "Your heart muscle strength has improved. You have never had symptoms of congestive heart failure. The heart chamber sizes, wall thickness, estimated pressures, and heart valves are normal. Several 24-hour recordings of your heart electrical activity indicated no significant heat rhythm abnormality."

Later in the letter, Monahan said: "You are in good health currently and you have been engaging vigorously in the rigors of your campaign, travel, and other scheduled activities without any limitation."

The campaign also released two additional letters from physicians at the University of Vermont, who have examined Sanders since his heart attack earlier this year, saying that Sanders is in good health and making a strong recovery. The doctors, Philip Ades, Patrick Savage and Martin LeWinter, said they believed Sanders is fit to serve as president.

I'm not sure how much genetics is considered before a heart attack actually happens - if preventative action is usually taken, or not. There is certainly plenty of talk about it post event.

is 78. He just had a heart attack. Recently. So your analogy is more squirrel, but that’s par for these distractions, lol. Your news is from the 80’s. I graduated from college that year...that’s how long ago Biden’s news is, lol. Long long time ago.

BTW, none of the causes of death look particularly appealing. Hard to pick a favorite. But heart disease is number one, and that’s a fact. Probably why Bernie and Jane were very secretive about his condition. It’s devastating health news.

After coronary thrombosis and ischaemia, with stunt placement, the American Heart Association REQUIRES DAPT (dual anti-platelet therapy) usually consisting of ticagrelor (Brilinta®) twice a day and 81 mg of Aspirin per day. In addition, they require lisinopril and atorvastatin as well. This regime has to be continued for 1 year and will soon be revised to two years.

Only a fool would stop DAPT 3 months into the stent placement because the risk of stent-thrombosis is exponential and stent thrombosis has an extremely high fatality rate.

This letter is disingenuous if not bogus.

Here is the American College of Cardiology-American Heart Association update from 2016 regarding duration of DAPT -

Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign says it still plans to release the 78-year-old Vermont senator’s health records along with a letter from his doctor by the end of December.

Sanders pledged to make his medical history public on Oct. 24, a week after returning to the campaign trail after suffering a heart attack.

“I want to make it comprehensive,” Sanders told the Associated Press at the time. “The answer is I will, probably by the end of the year.”

Faiz Shakir, Sanders’ campaign manager, later added to reporters that Sanders’ health records would include a letter from his doctor that would show he had made a full recovery from his heart attack earlier that month.
