Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumSo...the last state GE polls of 2019 (VA & FL) show only Biden beating Trump, w/highest favorables.
I hope that on this last day of the year we've finally gone past the "But his name recognition!" excuses for our other top candidates not doing as well against Trump in these match-up polls.
The voters have had plenty of time to look over our candidates, and this is what those surveyed in these Mason-Dixon polls thought of the four top Democratic candidates versus Trump:
Virginia:

Trump edges three other top-tier Democrats Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg, according to a poll conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy.

The results indicate that while Virginia has evolved from a red state, to a swing state, to one that now leans blue, Democrats cannot completely take Virginia for granted, said Brad Coker, CEO and managing director of the polling and consulting organization.
Biden received 49% to Trumps 45% with 6% undecided in the poll of 625 registered voters surveyed by phone between Dec. 12-16.
Trump had the backing of 48% to Warrens 44% with 8% undecided. The president got 51% to Sanders 45% with 4% undecided. Trump received 47% to Buttigiegs 45% with 8% undecided.
Biden had the highest favorability rating in the poll at 51%, compared with 45% for Trump, 36% for Warren, 35% for Sanders and 33% for Buttigieg, the least well-known of the candidates in the survey.
Buttigieg had the lowest unfavorability rating at 30%, compared with 33% for Biden, 48% for Trump, 51% for Warren and 52% for Sanders.

Florida:

PRESIDENT TOPS ALL OTHER DEMOCRATS
Florida is a key swing state that President Donald Trump will likely need to win in order to get re-elected. Currently, only former Vice President Joe Biden presents serious competition to Trump in the Sunshine State.
Statewide, Biden holds a narrow lead over Trump, with 47% of Florida voters backing him, 45% supporting the president and 8% undecided.Trump currently has a clear advantage over his other top potential Democratic challengers.
Statewide, Trump crushes Elizabeth Warren (51%-42%), has a relatively comfortable margin over Bernie Sanders (49%-44%) and a slimmer lead over Pete Buttigeig (49%-45%).
Now, as for the favorable/unfavorable/neutral/didn't-recognize results of this Florida poll:
Trump: 46% favorable, 47% unfavorable, 7% neutral
Biden: 45% favorable, 41% favorable, 14% neutral
Warren: 37% favorable, 48% unfavorable, 13% neutral, 2% didn't recognize
Sanders: 35% favorable, 52% unfavorable, 13% neutral
Buttigieg: 32% favorable, 38% unfavorable, 17% neutral, 13% didn't recognize

And the next most recent Virginia GE poll, the one from Virginia Commonwealth University earlier this month, also had Biden as the only Democratic candidate beating Trump.

(13,412 posts)The VA poll is radically different from those results and as well results from 2018, 2017 and 2016. Why should this poll be believed when all recent election results from VA paint an entirely different picture?

(48,957 posts)results do NOT guarantee that just any Democratic candidate, or any of our top few candidates, could beat Trump.
Biden campaigned in Virginia for those state races. Which almost certainly helped, since EVERY primary poll done in Virginia this year has shown Biden leading his Democratic rivals by double digits.
