Sanders not sure that 'one incident alone' disqualifies Biden

BY MICHAEL BURKE - 03/31/19 10:52 AM EDT

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Sunday that he's "not sure that one incident alone" disqualifies Joe Biden from running for president after former Nevada state assemblywoman Lucy Flores (D) accused the former vice president of inappropriately touching and kissing her without her consent in 2014.

“That’s a decision for the vice president to make," Sanders, a candidate for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, said on CBS's "Face the Nation" when asked if the allegation disqualifies Biden. "I’m not sure that one incident alone disqualifies anybody."

Sanders added that he has "no reason not to believe" Flores, who said in an essay published Friday in New York Magazine's The Cut that Biden touched her shoulders and kissed the back of her head before a Nevada campaign rally.

“I have no reason not to believe Lucy," the Vermont senator said on Sunday. "And I think what this speaks to is the need to fundamentally change the culture of this country and to create environments feel comfortable and feel safe.”

I don't see where he's offering up the information that Biden hired him for his team. You should read the tweets to him. . This guy seems like a shitty friend.

Biden Nabs Big Name Latino Operative

“In the latest sign that Joe Biden will run for president, his team has brought on Cristóbal Alex, the head of the influential Latino Victory Fund,” Politico reports.
“It’s not clear what role Alex would fill in a Biden presidential campaign. He served as Hillary Clinton’s National Deputy Director of Voter Outreach and Mobilization in 2016.”
https://politicalwire.com/2019/03/06/biden-nabs-big-name-latino-operative/

https://www.thecut.com/2019/03/an-awkward-kiss-changed-how-i-saw-joe-biden.html
When I spoke to a male friend who is also a political operative in Biden’s orbit — the first man who had heard the story outside of my staff and close friends years ago — he did what no one else had and made me question myself and wonder if I was doing the right thing. He reminded me that Biden has significant resources and argued points that made me question my memory, even though I’ve replayed that scene in my mind a thousand times. He reminded me that my credibility would be attacked and that I should be prepared for the type of “back and forth” that could occur. (When reached by New York Magazine, a representative for Vice-President Joe Biden declined to comment.)

I’m not suggesting that Biden broke any laws, but the transgressions that society deems minor (or doesn’t even see as transgressions) often feel considerable to the person on the receiving end. That imbalance of power and attention is the whole point — and the whole problem.

and sexual violence alleged on his last campaign?

Was BS asked to speculate as to why Lucy Flores continued to work on that campaign despite the fact that she was aware of the abuses in real time?

Was BS asked why he didn't know about the abuse and/or why Lucy Flores chose not to disclose it to him?

I'm more troubled by what happened in secret on the BS campaign last time around than I am about the questions surrounding Joe Biden's public persona.

Lucy Flores, a former Nevada assemblywoman and a surrogate for the Sanders campaign during the 2016 presidential primary, said she was contemporaneously aware of these same allegations of "misogyny" during the campaign.

"There was essentially a cover-up" when issues were raised, she told NPR.

Flores added that sexism isn't an issue isolated to the Sanders campaign, saying it commonly occurs in campaigns.

"Frankly, I do think it's a little unfair ... that the attention and all of the conversation is including Bernie's name, because this isn't just something that's limited to Bernie's campaign," Flores said.

but she chose to say nothing at the time--until complaints from other staffers forced her hand?

Would it be that doing so would be an inexcusable black mark on Sanders' campaign--and, by extension, her own, since the only major endorsement she got was from Sanders?

And then she immediately pivots to "other campaigns do it too"?

How's that any better?
