Homophobic Buttigieg supporter wants her vote back.

Uninformed and homophobic Buttigieg supporter wants her vote card back after learning he is gay. As Christopher Hitchens wrote, “religion poisons everything.”

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Thankfully, Pete don't pander to the lowest-common denominator as your imaginative scenario directly implies.

2. Uff da! Probably a lot of people don't know that Buttigieg

is gay and has a male spouse. I tend to forget that not everyone follows political news as closely as DUers do.

Homophobia and even just general angst about LGBTQIA issues will probably be factors in the long term that aren't yet recognized.

That's terribly unfortunate.

So many people don't really know all that much about the candidates at this point. As the weeks go on, they may learn things that will turn them off. That's really sad that this voter finds Buttigieg's sexual orientation a disqualifier.

This is why we should be testing the people's knowledge before they get to vote. It's ridiculous that she didn't know this fact. It hasn't been kept a secret anywhere. Has she been under a rock? (Probably...with other Trumpsters.)

and candidates early on in an election year. We're all very interested in such things or we wouldnt be on DU, but most people aren't paying all that much attention yet. Truly they aren't. That's reality.

She's a moron for being homophobic, but not for failing to follow candidates closely this early.

I would expect it from the other side but this is presumably one of our voters.

I am proud of the progress that Mayor Pete has demonstrated but I fear that we are a long way from actually getting more than half the Country to go along.

In a way, it is apropos that he is so young. Maybe the Country can continue to mature on this issue as he continues to mature himself.

Should we ignore the fact that there are many homophobes who will not vote for a gay candidate? I think we should try to figure out how to overcome and deal with it rather than just to deny it will be a factor if Mayor Pete is the nominee.

gains by gays and/or lesbians over the last 30 years. False narratives.

This homophobic Iowa caucus goer is in the wrong tent, I am thinking. Doesn't one think that if she thought he was (Buttigieg) good enough to vote for (that she wants her vote back), that maybe she was wrong about her perception of gays/lesbians all along?

A true shame...especially when we are all wanting the same things, good paying jobs, good and safe neighborhoods, good healthcare, list goes on and on ...

12. Unfortunately, Democrats are not immune to prejudices.

Or misconceptions. That shouldn't be true, but it is. That caucus goer might never act on her prejudices in any material way, but they might keep her away from the voting booth in November. Inaction has the same effect as negative action, in the end.

There are Democratic voters in the worst sort of fundamentalist evangelical churches. They hear prejudiced ideas every week when they attend those churches. Even if they're not actively prejudiced against some people that regular exposure to prejudice can result in an unconscious negative reaction, even if they don't think they are prejudiced.

For many people, voting is based not on facts or policies, but on some sort of gut reaction to a candidate or idea.

There's really nothing that can be done about that, but it's a real thing.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

tremendously for gays and lesbians over the last 30 years. You can't take that away. People whose mode of thinking like this, are finding themselves more and more isolated in their beliefs. A good thing, as society as a whole moves on to better things.

Sadly, we have an administration that is actively promoting prejudices instead of helping us get rid of them. We have to be vigilant, always against slipping back into old ways, I think.
