Dogface - let's all learn

I had never heard the term, but a quick read says it refers to infantry soldiers, particularly from WWII, who wore dog tags and slept in pup tents and hid in foxholes. Apparently there's a song about it, which I'll have to check out.

I'm sure there's an equally interesting explanation for "pony soldier", and I'm looking forward to learning about that too.

Sure, most people here had never heard the terms. Maybe learning about these terms will spur more interest in learning about WWII and the sacrifices our veterans (and civilians too) made for all of us.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Dog-face would have been offensive in a certain context.

But that context is not present here (as far as I can tell from the video).

A better phrase for Biden to use would have been "cheeky", he was saying the student was being cheeky.

Thats what students / younger people are, all he's saying she's a little cheeky.

Its just doing it with an archaic term, that is all.

Nothing to get all sensitive about not a big deal, but the flavor of the month is to pile onto Joe so thats whats happening.

Its wrong though we need to say it.

Just like it would be wrong to pile onto Bernie for his language since he's in the same generation.

To most voters, it'll come across as a misogynist attack.

Had that been a man, Biden would be ok - but against a woman?

As you know, only Rapepublicans can get away with that.

He should not have used it on a woman, agreed.

But rather than malicious or mysogynistic I think it was just patronizing.

He patronized her and it was a mistake, but not campaign ending ... I think thats going too far.

As long as he can come out and explain it (and hopefully he does that tonight) I think most Democrats will be satisfied.

Edit: She Wore a Yellow Ribbon - "Dog faced soldier"'...

At the end of She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, the narrator tells the audience: "So here they are. The dog-faced soldiers, the regulars, the fifty-cents a day professionals riding the outposts of a nation. From Fort Reno to Fort Apache...from Sheridan to Stockton...they were all the same. Men in dirty-shirt blue...and only a cold page in the history books to mark their passing. But wherever they rose and whatever they sought for, that place became the United States."
