Michael J. Fox on Pete Buttigieg

I stumbled across this video of Michael J. Fox speaking in NH about Pete Buttigieg. I thought it at interesting observation on Pete's Buttigieg's appeal which is a calm and studied demeanor. Unfortunately in Pete's case, his strength is his weakness. Obama was able to perfectly balance hopeful ideology with calm thoughtfulness. Pete seems sincere, intelligent, and someone capable of changing his opinion over time (like Obama did on gay marriage), but he just doesn't stir up an emotional response like Obama. Even when he is speaking passionately about something he sounds more like he is reading a spreadsheet. I like Pete Buttigieg BTW, I just don't feel he stirs up enough emotion to get people out to vote.

P.S. I apologize if someone already posted this.

Pete has plenty of fire or emotion for me. I love his calm, reasoned, intelligent way of speaking.

I really get tired of people who shout, or wave their arms, or carry on too much. It's exhausting to listen to.

Pete speaks in complete sentences and complete paragraphs too. It's amazing and soothing.

He doesn't have to sound like Obama, although I've seen people say he does.

He is his own man, authentic, intelligent and empathic.

I was actually a strong Pete supporter in the very beginning, I still am. I loved it when he called Trump the "Porn Star President" for example. I still am rooting for Pete, my worry is whether or not he is too nuanced--for lack of a better word--for the general population.

I don't expect Buttigieg to be like Obama, he's his own candidate, just using Obama as an example of someone who was able to stir up powerful emotions. I personally am drawn to Pete Buttigieg's understated approach, I want someone like that in the White House. But he has to get elected first and I'm not sure his quieter approach is going to reach enough voters. I hope to h*ll I'm wrong.

If we could merge Warren/Buttigieg/Bernie into one I think we'd have the perfect candidate..lol.

he is not Obama but no one is. Almost not fair to try to make that comparison.

No one will be the perfect combination of intelligence and passion that Obama was. But when I hear Elizabeth Warren speak, for example, she stirs up the audience. Bernie does too in his own way (though too combative for me). I'd like to see a bit more passion and less reserve in Pete. I have no doubt he believes firmly in those issues important to the Democratic ideals, but sometimes I wish he'd be the less cautious candidate that I saw in the beginning.

what our country did to HRC that my feminist roots are fried. I DO NOT TRUST people to vote for the best candidate if she does not have a penis. Not just the good old boys and girls but regular main stream people who still prefer a white guy, whether they will acknowledge it or not. I so wish I lived in a Nordic country.

Sorry, I'm not laughing at your post but love the "I DO NOT TRUST people to vote for the best candidate if she does not have a penis". I needed that laugh.

As much as I thought Hillary was "that" woman who could win the Presidency, I totally underestimated the irrational hatred some have for anything Clinton, particularly Hillary. OMG...the anti-Hillary comments still coming from the right are absolutely off the charts irrational in their venomous hatred.

Being the "first" anything will require a "once in a lifetime" sort of candidate like Barack Obama. As qualified as Amy Klobachur and Elizabeth Warren are, I'm not sure they don't have that once in a lifetime quality. It's ridiculous, but this is America--a country that voted for someone as ridiculous and unqualified as Trump.
