Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumSanders Surging?
Sanders is showing signs of surging in the Dem Primary, and so the knives are coming out. My question to DUers is- if by some chance Sanders is the Democratic Nominee, will you support his campaign in the General Election over Trump?
I myself will support whoever gets the nomination, even if it is someone like Bloomberg, who I despise. Bloomberg wants to bypass democracy and the primaries and use his money to get a brokered convention in his favor. As despicable as this is, it is still better than Trump. I would vote for Bloomberg over Trump. The lesser of two evils.
To those that despise Sanders, I would ask if you will support Sanders versus Trump, if it gets down to that? I will support whoever the Democratic Nominee is, even if I do not much like them, at all, like Bloomberg. Will you do the same with Sanders if by some chance he gets the nomination?

(48,969 posts)I have seen a lot of messages saying Sanders' base, especially the younger voters, won't vote unless he's the nominee. Those always seemed rather threatening. Nice party you have there, shame if anything happened to it...

(713 posts)That seems to be true, but there is a lot of animosity on the topic here anyway. For example, I personally am growing to really hate Bloomberg for his money and his arrogance. Still, if he wins the nomination, I will vote for him.
I have seen people on social media say that they will not vote for Bloomberg, no matter what. I think that you will not see that here on DU, since we are all supposedly Democrats here, and will vote Democratic no matter what.
I still think that it is worth restating that we will all vote blue, no matter who. I think that it is worth addressing the topic, as it is something discussed on other areas of the Internet that are not so reliably Blue as DU.

(18,770 posts)Of course I'd vote for Bernie over Trump. In fact, I would be happy to (no "holding one's nose" nonsense).

(5,111 posts)That's their modus operandi. It's a little formula I've noticed...asking "innocent" questions. I'll just say it right out there. They are all over this site.

(713 posts)I do not have a "modus operandi" and I do not care about "getting my OP count up". My original post was sincere. I am not trying to game the site somehow. I have seen a lot of people on other internet platforms (Facebook, Twitter) say that they will not vote for certain candidates no matter what. I was wondering of there was any of that sentiment here, and it seems not. So my OP was genuine. I really wanted to know.

(713 posts)I just think it is a good idea to establish that we will all vote Blue No Matter Who. I think there are some people out there that will not vote in the General Election unless it is their own candidate, and it is a topic worth discussing. It was a sincere post.

(94,503 posts)It seems that Sanders has been "Surging" since December, and pretty much seems to be where he was last year.

(713 posts)Sanders got the popular support (but not the state delegate lead) in Iowa and won the New Hampshire Primary. His poll numbers are looking pretty good, especially in the delegate rich state of California. We will see what happens in Nevada and then South Carolina, and then Super Tuesday. But right at this moment, it looks like Sanders is the one to beat. This might change after these upcoming contests, or Sanders might move ahead. Anyway, Sanders might be considered to be having a small moment where he is the leading candidate. So maybe at least a small surge.

(713 posts)That was why I put a question mark after the word "surge". Some people are claiming that Bernie is moving up, others are claiming that he is not so much. I am referencing people from other platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Those places are a bit more raucous and "wild west" than DU. So there are some people on the Internet that think Bernie is surging. I was curious what people here thought about that idea. So, thank you for your responses.
