If Sanders Would Repel Republicans In The General, Why Did Senator Lee Just Join His National OpEd?

One of the most conservative members of Congress agreed to have his name appear alongside Bernie's. That's not exactly an example of "repelling" Republicans. Read the whole OpEd here.

The point here is that many Sanders skeptics claim that Bernie has no chance in the general because his "far-left" platform will be perceived as unpalatable by Republican voters.

If that is true, Senator Mike Lee would be foolish to align himself with Sanders on ANY point. Nevertheless, he did.

That is worse than Trump's numbers, an is no doubt due to a variety of factors.

So, picking one point, and using one instance to refute it, is fallacious.

My impression is that the GOP sees Sanders as unelectable due to their scaremongering on socialism and also as an effective way to weaken the Democratic Party. Not saying that's right or wrong, but I think they went easy on him last election to help weaken Clinton.

Joining Sanders on a pro-peace initiative hardly qualifies as going easy on him.

Let's also remember that this Yemen vote was a YUGE landmark in the legislative process.

If I'm right, anything they can do to strengthen Sanders against others they fear more will be of use to them.

Right?

"Bernie Sanders has a message that's interesting. I'm going to be taking a lot of the things Bernie said and using them."

...
Both have angrily denounced the political system as corrupt and expressed deep frustration that Washington is not helping ordinary people. They both oppose international trade deals, saying they hurt American jobs.

And, of course, targeting Sanders supporters could serve to undermine Clinton.
