The left in the Democratic Party are severely misreading the mood of the nation

That’s where 2020 most mirrors 1972.

in 1968, the GOP won a very narrow election and the Democratic party completely misread the mood of the country in 1972 and nominated the farthest left candidate in generations. And got slaughtered.

In 2020, 70% of the public is ok with the economy, but they want Trump out. There is no real thirst among the overwhelming majority of the country for an economic revolution - and the majority will reject that choice.

Running on an economic revolution is a critical error. People will always choose the sociopath over the socialist, especially with an ok economy.

Yes, I know that there is massive income inequality and a host of economic problems... but the public is not ready to overturn the system.

The public IS ready to end Trump Fatigue, but not at the expense of our economic system.

Like 1972, the far left is misreading the public mood.

Like the UK far left a couple months ago was misreading the public mood there.

We are Corbyn-izing our party... and we are going to see the same results.

The only way Bernie beats Trump is if there is a massive 2008-style economic collapse a couple months before the election. To get rid of Trump, we are reduced to rooting for an economic collapse.

Not a good place to be.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

78% of us live paycheck to paycheck.

40% of us can't afford an unexpected $400 expense.
63% of us can't afford an unexpected $500 expense.

Just because the stock market is doing well and the fake job numbers look good does not mean that Americans are doing well economically.

That simply isn’t true.

From Forbes:

Most Americans Struggling Financially Despite The Strong Economy

Donna FuscaldoSenior Contributor

Despite the booming economy and low unemployment, only 29% of Americans consider themselves financially healthy.

That means the vast majority of U.S. individuals aren’t prepared if and when another recession sets in.

-snip-

They found 43 million Americans or 17% are struggling with most if not all aspects of their financial lives. Meanwhile, 135 million or 54% are struggling with some aspect of their financial lives and 73 million or 29% of people are spending, saving, borrowing and planning. All told more than 70% are having some type of financial problem.

in 2019-20, the goal is the same... it is why Trump committed impeachable offenses to damage Joe Biden. The Trump campaign wants to face Bernie.

That's the problem, and that's what the Sanderistas couldn't give a fuck about. The consequence is four more years of Trump and McConnell, plus probably losing the house too. Given the depths of interference in 2016 you can't take comfort in polls. Only a strong blue wave on election day might save us.

We need to take the WH, vote McÇonnel out, take back the Senate, and keep the house. We don't have the luxury of picking a candidate that would hurt our chances of achieving this. Democrats are like a sled team whose dogs are trying to pull in different directions which makes it hard to get to you your destination.

Behind door number 1: The promise of a tax increase in exchange for a free healthcare plan that will require them to give up their private insurance for an as yet unknown, unseen future govt. operated healthcare system relatively similar to what prosperous nations have throughout the world. Norway, Denmark etc.

Behind door number 2: An annoying human being who embarrasses the country, but who won’t do any of that, but is also easily avoided by turning the channel which costs nothing.

There will be a lot of opinions on which door these voters will choose in the coming months. I tend to believe it’ll be door 2, owing to human nature and the American public’s difficulties with nuanced concepts.

It was because of this in 2016 that Trump won the electoral votes he needed:

"Fully 12 percent of people who voted for Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., in the 2016 Democratic presidential primaries voted for President Trump in the general election."

https://www.npr.org/2017/08/24/545812242/1-in-10-sanders-primary-voters-ended-up-supporting-trump-survey-finds

It was Sanders primary voters who gave the general election to Trump. If Hillary would have won just a fraction of the 12% mentioned above in a few key states, we would never be having this conversation. This is also why the polling was so off in the 2016 general election. So yes, let's go back all the way to 1972.

Doesn’t seem likely.

Sanders’s support transcends political party. Though most of us are registered and loyal Democrats, many Sanders supporters were — and are — independents, and without allegiance to the Democratic Party. I grant you that anyone who switched from Sanders to trump was an idiot, but they would not have made the switch had Sanders been the nominee.

He would have beaten trump like a rug.

Democrats held majorities at the beginning of Clinton and Obama's first term and nothing happened. The mood soured and they lost the majority in the mid-terms. They hemmed and hawed and insisted that they were frozen because they didn't have a super-majority.
The left has failed in this way world wide and it is causing a swing toward the radical right across the globe.
Also people are much more aware of the immediacy of the threats we are facing.

Sounds, FUN, right? (Because I don't think you actually know anything more than any of the rest of us)

Or we could all just wait and see how it plays out and then, here's the hard part...once we have a nominee, we all rally around them as if they were our first choice, even if they aren't.

We vote, we take other people with us to vote and we work our asses off to win.
