Normally, when someone learns a new language later in life, they cannot get the accent just right.

Only babies and small children get it right. I believe this is because their hard palates are not yet hardened and so their speech shapes it.

Of course, there are always those geniuses who can learn any language at any age and be perfect at it!

But he IS too good to be true. And as a native South Bender, I am thrilled at how he is doing. Right now I'd like to see a Harris/Pete ticket, but with more exposure, I might flip the order!

You build a language map in early life. For some of us the neural connections of that map are drawn in permanent marker, indelible and unchangeable, and once we reach a certain age, the marker dries up and will give no more. For the lucky among us, these lines are drawn in fine artists pencil, constantly able to remold, shape and grow.

Neuroplasticity. It's a lovely thing.

but I think there’s an expression of shared sadness, and of the gift that Notre Dame is to civilization.

Very nice accent, and delivered with genuine sincerity. It’s been a LOOOOOONNNNNNG time since I learned French - in school.
