I was persuaded to back him. Here's why: He said, "Climate change has to be our top priority. It can't just be on the to do list on the refridgerator." (Words close to that.) Here's why that was critical for me. In the 20th century Boston Harbor was terribly polluted for decades. All of the players (abutters, government agencies, tourism) agreed that it was very important that it got cleaned up. But nothing happened for decades. When it finally did get cleaned up it's because all those entities (or close enough) put cleanup as their TOP priority. It had been second or third for everyone but no one's TOP priority. Inslee seems to get that. And we just don't have time left.
Fortunately he has these other qualities:
- He's articulate enough to explain persuasively why combatting climate change will result in improvements in those second and third priorities like income inequality and health care
- He has gravitas.
- He's not too old (barely - 68).
- So far he doesn't have any heavy baggage.
- He's got a great record in Washington state.
