I'm giving candidates 1 more week to make a firm statement in favor of impeachment

First, kudos to Senator Warren for being the first candidate to call for trump's impeachment. I'm usually in the pragmatic camp, but not this time--not when it comes to the chaos and cruelty trump has inflicted in this country and around the world.

Frankly, I'm disgusted by the delay I'm seeing when it comes to my preferred candidates. Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Pete...I'm talking to you! Anyone who has not taken a firm stance by next Friday will not get my vote in the primaries. Period. I'm looking for a leader, not a follower.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

I think it's important that our nominee be thoughtful on such things and that they avoid jumping on a bandwagon or painting themselves into a corner.

they still need to think about?! We've all seen more than enough. Let the impeachment hearings sort the rest of it out.

And as far as counting? Let the entire nation watch trump lie under oath and show the American people what trump has really been up to for the past 3 years. Then dare the GOP to acquit him/give him a pass. But what we should NOT do, is help the GOP out by not giving them the opportunity to vote one way or another! Get everyone on record. If we lose, fine. But get it all on record and show that you did your constitutional duties, ffs.

Not really.

They will and we'll have egg on our faces.

I like the way that Adam Schiff characterized it when he said that it would be difficult to impeach him without graphic evidence... I think that's a higher level than the "compelling evidence" that we have (and that we've observed all along).

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/03/12/schiff_warns_it_will_be_difficult_to_impeach_the_president_without_graphic_evidence.html

Schiff said that without "very graphic" evidence an effort to remove the president will probably end in failure.

"In the absence of very graphic evidence, it would be difficult to get the support in the Senate needed to make an impeachment successful. So, again, my feeling is, let’s see what Bob Mueller produces, but the evidence will have to be pretty overwhelming," Schiff said.
On that point I agree. Schiff (and Pelosi) are correct. They both have a practical approach, not an emotional one.

(Not with you on the timeline as of yet, 1 week is a bit short.) We, as Democrats and Americans, have a moral and ethical obligation to pursue the truth and protect democracy, regardless of political consequences. "But the Senate" is how Democracy dies. Our candidates have the opportunity to do the right thing, and so far Warren is the only one swinging for the fences in the name of justice and for the safeguarding of America.

3. I think it's best for those not in Congress to resist getting into it.

It's not their decision. I'd like them to recognize that. Sure, they have an opinion.

Most who voice a definite opinion without knowing all the facts or having their ducks in a row...that person should not be President.

This will be decided by the Democratic leaders, as they gather the evidence for various crimes, and get the information out to the public. This process is critical. The public must be made aware of all that Trump has done, to the extent we can find out. Then they decide what to do with that information...impeachment, possible indictment after he leaves office, and for what crimes.

This is not a time for rashness or careless talk. The public should be fully aware of all the evidence BEFORE any impeachment proceeding is started or suggested. Otherwise, it looks like they they want to impeach Trump, so they are fishing for something to hang their hat on.

Pelosi has a good handle on this, I think.

12. Why would standing up for the country cause us to lose?
Fri Apr 19, 2019, 07:57 PM
Apr 2019

That wouldn't cause us to lose. But NOT standing up to trump probably would cause us to lose. It's what caused rethugs to lose in 2018.

I can't think of a worse scenario than what this country is now experiencing because of trump. If you can't stand up now, when will you stand up? Even repubs like Nicolle Wallace are becoming annoyed by our leadership's failure to act.

I do not think I'm smarter than those in Congress or the Senate (well, maybe some of them), so I'm just going to wait and let them do their job.

There's no way they could make any decision until they've seen the entire un-redacted report. Doing so would be foolish. I think what's happening now is good. The report is being dissected and reviewed, and the inconsistencies, the lies, the horrors of this administration are being exposed.

9. Impeachment is risky at this point
Fri Apr 19, 2019, 07:24 PM
Apr 2019

If he is impeached now, it will go to the senate and within a couple of months the senate will fail to convict him. That will make Trump rally his base and motivate republicans.

An impeachment at this point will only make it harder to defeat Trump.

I'd have said the opposite last year when there was still a year between impeachment and election year. Now there isn't.

I trust Nancy Pelosi on this.

I think it is the correct one. When/if Pelosi moves forward with impeachment, it will have to be on defined grounds. That is when the candidates can talk in detail. Until then, they are just guessing at what offense Pelosi will move forward on. I think Mayor Pete was clear that they will have his public support.
