Pete Buttigieg's high school yearbook has surfaced.

Before he was a candidate, Pete Buttigieg was voted 'most likely' to be president

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg may have a leg up on his competition in 2020.

In South Bend, Indiana, Buttigieg is nearly universally known and nearly everyone seems to have a "Mayor Pete" story.

Katie Kowals, an intake nurse at the city's Memorial Hospital, said her brother-in-law knows Buttitgieg well, but added, "He was exactly as he is now."

"You know what else?" she asked. "Mayor Pete was also voted most likely to become president in our yearbook."

In 2000, then a senior in high school, Buttigieg was voted "most likely to become president" at St. Joseph High School.

...suggest he's my kind of guy.

I have no dog to hunt in the primaries and my vote won't count since the nominee will almost certainly be decided by the time the primaries get to New Jersey.

I'm ABB "anyone but Bernie" in the Democratic Field second only to ABT "anyone but Trump" in the Presidential field, which any decent American is, but I am very impressed with the wide array of interesting and thoughtful people running for President.

This guy is among my favorites, along with Joe Biden, Jay Inslee, with a nod to the good ideas that Andrew Yang brings, which is to "spread the wealth" of AI among all citizens, and a dollop of healthy respect for Elizabeth Warren.

We have some highly intelligent candidates who - while acknowledging that there is a population among Americans who like mental midgets, particularly racist mental midgets - who we can compare to the senile, corrupt mental midget in the White House.

I know some southern people have hunting dogs, but I never knew the leaves were turned. What do you use to hunt dogs, possums? Just wanted to know.

Of course you could have meant "I have no dog in this hunt", in which case I am being my classical asshole self.

38. It's a kind of passive transitive voice...
Sat Apr 20, 2019, 09:36 PM
Apr 2019

...for example, "I ran my sheep into the barn."

It is a type of locution common in, for example, Old Norse. I fully confess that it is an archaic form in English, but then again, hunting with dogs or dog hunting are generally associated with rural communities in which the usage of archaic forms are relatively common. Some of these dialects persist in certain regions of the South, particularly isolated communities, where many locutions derive from Scots/Irish language forms.

This kind of usage may be an artifact in certain English dialects related to the Norse Invasions of modern day England/Scotland, notably in Northumbria which was basically an agrarian culture featuring herding and hunting. Several Kings of Northumbria were in fact Scandinavian in the period between 800 and 1100 AD.

Wiktionary has an example of the verb biðja as used in both transitive and intransitive tenses, referring to the verbs use in Icelandic, Faroese and the Danish cognate. You could look it up. It is etymologically similar to the German verb bitten, and the Swedish bedja.

You are free to interpret my remarks in any way you wish, but they were not actually about dogs, but about some other subject.

For the record I don't actually hunt anything, since I've been a vegetarian for more than 40 years. I don't own a dog, and in fact, did not have any pets except a hamster for my kid that lived about three years, and had no other pets until my sister-in-law prevailed on me to take her cat when she divorced her husband.

I've grown rather fond of the cat, although she clawed the shit out of my furniture, or, put differently, the furniture clawing was the cat's result.

I don't have a cat to chase in this primary.

He could very well be the next President. If he were the nominee I'd support him enthusiastically, needless to say. And if he doesn't get the nomination in 2920 he'd be a perfect VP choice.

And in 2028 he could run for President at the ripe old age of 46. And AOC would be barely old enough to be his running mate.

Please don't take my post negatively. In many aspects Pete would be my guy. I could even get behind his climate change plans - if he ever forms/releases them.

This was a good start: “So, let’s call this what it is: climate security a life and death issue for our generation.” The fact that he used "our" instead of 'future generations' conveys that he really gets it.

I only care about other issues once climate change mitigation is addressed. If we don't deal with climate change now, the earth will deal with us in a very deserved and quite harsh manner(English penchant for polite understatement intentional).
