1. I don't see any downside. Could prove to be a stabilizing factor for the party.

Biden was always the wild card, and things will be sorted differently now that he's in. I'm still on the fence and probably will stay there for awhile but there is a lot to like about him.

4. I think he compares well to Trump.

On point after point, the downsides (potential attacks) to Biden would be covered by comparison to far worse behavior by Trump.

But our other candidates have more ingrained, non-Trump issues going against them.

Sanders - socialist.
Warren - female. (plus maybe the DNA thing and "liberal elite professor" bs)
Harris - black and female (we at DU might LOVE that, but we all know there are people who will not vote for either of those characteristics)
Buttigieg - gay (same comment as for Harris); "inexperienced"

etc. - I won't go through the whole list, you get the idea.

As much as I would like to see Harris or warren, especially warren be president... even Hillary said America was not going to elect a woman president. Hopefully thou... in the not too distant future!

8. One way to get there would be placing a woman in the VP slot, . . .

a heartbeat from the presidency. In Biden's case, this would be a hattip to the future. I'm thinking Kamala Harris would be an outstanding choice. Or even Stacy Abrams. I'd love to see Liz Warren considered but I'm not sure Biden/Warren would be a good mesh. That being said, I'd love to be wrong.

7. Like every other successful Dem candidate in history, except Obama (still male).

If you want to play that game.

Obama was an exceptional campaigner who locked in high African American turnout for Dems.

I would love to be wrong, but doubt that black female candidate locks in AA turnout the same way. Male chauvinism knows no race. (And there are plenty of women who don't feel comfortable with the idea of a woman president.)

Well how about this - every Democrat since WWI who has taken the Whitehouse back from the Republicans has been young: FDR (51) JFK (43) Carter (52) WJC (46) Obama (47) ... Democrats look to the new

Republicans favor back to the future: Ike, Nixon, Reagan, W, Trump - all old or recycled.
