Come on ⁦@PeteButtigieg⁩. It is intellectually dishonest to compare Bernie to Trump. Bernie is for giving people healthcare, education, childcare, & more pay. He wants to blow up credentialed elitism — those who reject tuition free college for all.

First, Pete was not comparing Bernie to Trump. The click-bait headline reads "Pete Buttigieg compares Bernie supporters and Trump fans." https://nypost.com/2019/04/21/pete-buttigieg-compares-bernie-supporters-and-trump-fans/

But reading the article reveals he made the rather uncontroversial statement that both Bernie and Trump supporters include disaffected voters.

So Khanna jumps the gun and accuses Mayor Pete of being "intellectually dishonest".. not a good look for Khanna.

Couldn't find the tweet from Khanna but I remember what he said because I noted it in this thread..

20. Ro Khanna fell for a NY Post click-bait headline. Mayor Pete was not comparing Bernie to Trump.
Mon Apr 22, 2019, 04:29 AM
Apr 2019

Here's what the article said:

Democratic candidate Pete Buttigieg compared Bernie Sanders’ supporters with fans of President Trump — claiming that both camps include disaffected citizens who seek to change the status quo.

The 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana was speaking at a campaign stop in New Hampshire on Friday when he drew a parallel between followers of the diametrically opposed politicians, according to The Washington Examiner.

“I think the sense of anger and disaffection that comes from seeing that the numbers are fine, like unemployment’s low, like all that, like you said GDP is growing and yet a lot of neighborhoods and families are living like this recovery never even happened. They’re stuck,” Buttigieg told high school students in in Nashua, N.H.

“It just kind of turns you against the system in general and then you’re more likely to want to vote to blow up the system, which could lead you to somebody like Bernie and it could lead you to somebody like Trump. That’s how we got where we are.”

https://nypost.com/2019/04/21/pete-buttigieg-compares-bernie-supporters-and-trump-fans/

In other words, he made the rather uncontroversial statement that both Bernie and Trump supporters include disaffected voters.

The headline spreads like wildfire through Twitter and Facebook. Some actually read the article before forming an opinion while others simply dont bother because they already want to believe. Its confirmation bias. Context doesnt matter.

He actually proved his point.

Buttigieg was talking about supporters, not the candidate. then he tries to inflame the issue by obscuring what Buttigieg said.

both camps include disaffected citizens who seek to change the status quo.

“I think the sense of anger and disaffection that comes from seeing that the numbers are fine, like unemployment’s low, like all that, like you said GDP is growing and yet a lot of neighborhoods and families are living like this recovery never even happened.
