Can you spot the differences between these two emails?

One of these is "best practices" and is probably a good model for how our candidates and their campaigns treat each other.

96. When one villifies other politicians for being wealthy, and then one politician becomes

wealthy, then one gets very defensive and testy when asked about their previous statements, that is what is disturbing.

His supporters on FB passed around memes EVISCERATING Patrick Kennedy III for, among other things, "being wealthier than most in congress" the very morning after his very well received response to SOTU, when people were talking about him being POTUS material. I'd link to one, but one that was posted at DU was removed, and for good reason.

A small, 97% white, population is the constituency that keeps re-electing Bernie, and it was with the help of Chuck Schumer blocking the way for any Dems to challenge him that he got elected to the Senate, and mechanisms that prevent any Democrats who challenge him from getting funding and other resources from the Party allow him to run pretty much unopposed in primaries in VT.

And his approval rating among his constituents has gone down since December, according to the Morning Consult tracking poll.

His constituency benefits from him staying in the Senate. He has some seniority now, so he can serve on committees, and the Democratic Party has rolled the red carpet out for him for decades so he can caucus with us. He always portrays himself as the maverick, and not tainted by any "status quo" notions of being good at what "beltway insiders" do well.

John McCain kept getting re-elected for similar reasons by a similar demographic, and got still enjoyed support from his constituents even when he was showing signs of undiagnosed brain cancer, and losing cognitive ability.

104. Sanders didn't vilify wealthy people, that I heard. I think you took a leap there.

As far as I recall, he vilified behavior by certain "millionaires and billionaires." He never said that people with money are bad people.

It was always implied that he was clarifying that the wealthy people were the ones passing the unfair tax cuts or whatever. Of course he didn't mean ALL wealthy people.

As for his voters, it doesn't matter that they are white Vermonters. He is a good Senator, in the opinion of the voters of Vermont. Not cool to diss voters because they are in a small state or because of their race.

I didn't read anything about Sanders criticizing Joe Kennedy. But Sanders is grumpy, negative, disagreeable, and criticizes everyone but himself. So that wouldn't surprise me. (Sanders has a personal thing against the whole Kennedy family, I think.) Sanders giving his own competing speech with Kennedy's was proof positive, to me, that he wasn't a Democrat at heart and didn't have the Democratic Party in consideration.

Look, I don't like him. And I KNEW when he ran for President last time, that at least half of the reason was to get more known nationally and to make money. It wasn't to get elected President. (This is the reason most of the current candidates are running, too.) Everyone wants money, even if they rail against the wealthy, when they are not wealthy (yet).

To me, him making some money is irrelevant and not contrary to what I've heard him say about the behavior of the top wealthy class. I wish he'd go away and stop making trouble, but the money thing poses no problem for me. Sanders collected a salary for decades. He likes money. We ALL like money and want more of it.

107. Granted, he's changed his language to "billionaire class" from "millionaires" but he said

"There is something profoundly wrong when we have a proliferation of millionaires and billionaires at the same time as millions of Americans work longer hours for lower wages."

That wasn't about "taxes," that was about the negatives of new millionaires cropping up

So when he's asked about his current new millionaire status, getting defensive isn't a good look.

I don't care what he makes, or how many houses he has. He talks about how he "never changes" but then when he does change his message concerning Millionaires when he becomes one, and then gets defensive when someone holds him to his previous statements, that's where I see a double standard, one for him, and one for the rest of the 1%.

He rants about other people making money for giving speeches to groups, but if someone who did had given this response to him, "Well if you want to become a millionaire, then you can be a highly sought after speaker when you're out of office," he would have railed against that as corrupt, greedy and tone deaf, and typical of an out of touch, establishment oligharch.

When he said "I didn't know it was a crime to write a good book," I imagined how he and his supporters might have reacted if Hillary had said, "I didn't know it was a crime to be a highly sought after speaker."

and views the opposition to be drumpf and the rethuglicons. The other is about a Democrat of convenience that views the opposition to be other Democratic Presidential candidate contenders. We need a massive uniter, certainly not a divider. What was that about those nasty special interest millionaires and billionaires. Some decisions are made easy.
I like the ticket of Joe Biden / Kamala Harris which would provide Democrats with the best of the whole world.

89. Biden did promote a Republican candidate in 2018

and did not respond to the Democratic challenger's request to Biden to say something positive about him. The Republican was able to keep his seat by the smallest margin of his career.

NY Times
Jan. 24, 2019
Alexander Burns

Joseph R. Biden Jr. defended his decision to praise an embattled Republican lawmaker during a paid speech in Michigan last fall, telling a group of mayors on Thursday morning that it reflected his philosophy of how to ďget things done.Ē

The New York Times reported on Wednesday that Mr. Biden had earned $200,000 for an October speaking engagement in Benton Harbor, Mich., three weeks before the midterm elections. During that speech, Mr. Biden gave a glowing commendation to Representative Fred Upton, a powerful Republican who joined with Mr. Biden to increase funding for cancer research and, separately, helped forge legislation to gut the Affordable Care Act.

In Washington Thursday, Mr. Biden offered a forceful defense of his supportive remarks about Mr. Upton, signaling that he has no intention of blunting his instinct toward bipartisanship and compromise in the event that he runs for president. The former vice president has told allies in recent weeks that he is leaning toward running against President Trump in 2020.

ďI read in The New York Times today that I ó that one of my problems is if I ever run for president, I like Republicans,Ē Mr. Biden said, according to a video posted by the public-affairs network C-Span.
.........................................end.................................................

Matt Longjohn, the democratic challenger tried to get Biden to say something positive about him-but claims Biden never even responded to his request. Upton the republican Biden praised won by 4.5 points-smallest margin of his career,
he paper. (Upton ultimately won by 4.5 points, the smallest margin of his career.)

So youíre saying if Biden didnít give the speech, his margin of victory would have been even bigger?

Clearly, then, Joe needs to do more of them and pocket Republican cash while cutting into their numbers?

Or maybe, just maybe, Bidenís speech did not affect the numbers in any meaningful way?

106. Biden praise for Republican candidate Upton

If you need a clarification and don't want to open the link I provided to the New York Times article:

Fred Upton, the Republican praised by Joseph Biden, in a paid speech $200,000 in Michigan, used Biden's words of praise in his re-election campaign in 2018. Matt Longjohn asked Biden to offer some positive words for himself as the Democratic candidate trying to unseat Upton. Biden did not respond to the Democrat Longjohn. Upton then went on to win re-election by 4.5 points the smallest margin of his career (as reported by N Y Times).

If you want further clarification or want to dispute the NY Times article here again is the link and a different excerpt:

Both The Republican representative and the Democratic challenger are probably also available to discuss - video are available online.

<https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/24/us/politics/biden-praise-republican-speaking-fee.html>
Mr. Biden did not mention the speaking fee he received for his trip to Michigan, or address Mr. Uptonís role in the drive to repeal the Obama administrationís signature health care law, two dimensions of his Benton Harbor appearance that complicate Mr. Bidenís depiction of his remarks as a case study in old-school conciliation.

In a statement published Wednesday, Mr. Upton described Mr. Bidenís praise for him as a surprise and an ďimmense honor.Ē

Mr. Biden campaigned widely around the country during the midterm elections and made a particularly strong effort for Democrats in the Midwest, including elsewhere in Michigan.

But in Mr. Uptonís district, Mr. Bidenís favorable comments were used in Republican advertising in the final weeks of his re-election campaign against Matt Longjohn, a Democrat who was a national Y.M.C.A. health official. Mr. Upton ultimately won re-election by four and a half percentage points, the narrowest margin of his career.

145. So superficial. The label doesn't capture the quality of the goods.

There was a great article about how the DCCC's new policy is supporting an anti-gay, anti-choice Democrat over a progressive Democratic challenger.
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/progressives-dccc-primary-challengers-vendor-policy_n_5cc36adde4b04eb7ff95d2e1

That is the superficiality of that thinking, not really interested in what they stand for, just the label. So, you'd rather have a Democrat with un-Democratic policies than a real progressive because of the label. I guess that's the kind of thinking that got us here, very shallow unsubstantive thinking.

Why don't you accuse the Twitter person of trying to wipe out the Rhinos?

She saw a clear difference in how two campaigns saw the same event. One campaign was like "Great, now let's put our ideas before voters" and the other campaign was like "Well, we knew that they were going to try to hurt us, that is all they do, so let's burrow deeper into our bunker". The difference was clear and does not have SHIT to do with anti-semitism.

I found that she could be overly emotional and intemperate, but that does not make her what you claimed. A case in point. The last of the posts that I saw from her here was on prostitution after the Robert Kraft situation broke. She pretty much called anyone that opined that some forms of prostitution were voluntary on the part of everyone involved unfeeling and barbaric scumbags that should be jailed. Her intensity on that point still sticks with me today. I gave her the benefit of doubt for her (to me) over the top reaction because I reasoned that maybe she saw some things that I didn't see, given that she worked with women and girls that were victims of sex slaves. I actually thought that she chose to take a break from DU, due to her strong reactions in that particular thread.

130. Sadly

I think you are correct. It got so bad here on DU in 2016 that I stopped even checking the page. The mindless trolling and vitriol was overwhelming. Same at Raw Story, Daily Kos and others. Do people still not realize that this is part of what the Russian troll gig is all about? They create a fake persona and then come to places like DU and start this crap of one against the other and they have more trolls who post in the comment section to make it look like opinion is really going one way or the other. Is anybody really so dim that they don't think that the Russians have opposition research on every single Democratic candidate and have formulated specific plans on how to characterize and attack each one of them BOTH in the primaries and the general election? Don't play this game people. We don't have to. Stick to policies and issues. Don't fall into the trap.

92. My emails from Sanders & Warren said this. Never got the one posted. But I donated.

Xxx

This campaign was never going to be easy.

From the start, we knew it would take an unprecedented grassroots effort in order to win this nomination.

Not only are we taking on a political and corporate establishment that will do and spend whatever it takes to stop us, but we are running against a record number of candidates at the same time.

And today, there is one more candidate in the race.

That makes today a big day for our campaign ó and an important moment to show that we are the ones who can beat Trump and transform this country. So we are asking Ė especially today:

Can you make a contribution to our campaign today? Weíll put it right to work on the fight to win this nomination, while sending a message that ours is the campaign that will beat Trump and transform our country.

Got Warrens

XXXX,

We only have five days left to hit our April fundraising goal ó and as of this morning, weíre tracking a little behind.

The stakes are high right now. Meeting our goal before this deadline will make sure weíre able to grow this movement, and increase the number of states weíre organizing in at the pace we need to win.

But even though the pressure is high, you wonít see Elizabeth resort to hopping around big cities to host swanky fundraisers with wealthy donors.

You wonít see Elizabeth take a dime from federally registered lobbyists, corporate PACs, or PACs of any kind. You wonít see Elizabeth cozy up to billionaires and nudge them to dump buckets of cash into a Super PAC for her.

Instead, grassroots donors are the only people who fund our campaign. Nina, can you make a $3 contribution today? Every new contribution that comes in will help our campaign get back on track to hitting this important April fundraising goal.

Hitting this fundraising goal is just the first step of Elizabethís plan to put power in the hands of the people, where it belongs ó not in the clutches of the rich and powerful.

Elizabeth has a plan to make big, structural change ó the type of change that rips out the root causes of the deep problems in our economy, our government, and our democracy.

Because letís face it: There are systemic problems that led to someone like Donald Trump getting elected in the first place. Heís only the symptom, not the cause, of the crises we face.

To make real change, we need to build a massive grassroots movement, and we need bold ideas.

Thatís what Elizabeth is focused on.

Instead of catering to wealthy and well-connected donors, sheíll spend the next few days at meet and greets and organizing events with people in Iowa and Nevada. And sheíll keep proposing substantive ideas that would level the playing field for working people.

Elizabethís time is not for sale, and sheís running to be the best president that money canít buy. This movement is only possible because of support from people like you.
