Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumA candidate's choice of campaign senior staffers offers an important insight
into who they choose as advisors and cabinet appointments if elected.
Certainly they'll always choose people they deeply trust, but there are many characteristics in choosing advisors.
Do they choose those who will simply carry out their directives unquestioningly, or do they choose those who have their own extensive political experience, and could give them a second opinion on issues that they would respect and take under consideration?
Are they choosing staff with the idea that it will give them a certain amount of publicity and credibility on an issue, or do they make their choice and forego fanfare?
Trump's picks for his campaign staff foreshadowed his administration, and his judgement on those who would be in his cabinet.
I'm going to be watching for this as the primary goes on.

Their choices may indicate that they are willing or unwilling to choose advisors who will give them a wider POV, and not simply be "yes men."
Is that clearer?

Most, if not all, candidates rely on their top staffers to keep track of potential voter sentiments, poll rankings, and to identify issues that should be addressed at the candidate's next public appearance. Whatever the political leanings of those staffers are will be reflected, to some degree, in what the candidate says.
It's also an indicator of who the candidate trusts for advice. Who gets hired by each candidate to fill top advisory positions is very useful information that can provide us with clues about that candidate.
