CNN poll shows Biden in commanding lead among Democrats - Biden 39% , Sanders 15%

Former Vice President Joe Biden's announcement of a bid for the Democratic presidential nomination earned him an 11-point polling bounce, leaving him head and shoulders above the rest of the Democratic candidates.

39% Biden, 15% Bernie

"Bigger bounce than expected"

p.s. Here's the print article, from this morning:

(CNN)Former Vice President Joe Biden's announcement of a bid for the Democratic presidential nomination earned him an 11-point polling bounce, leaving him head and shoulders above the rest of the Democratic candidates.

A new CNN poll conducted by SSRS after Biden's announcement on Thursday shows 39% of voters who are Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents saying he is their top choice for the nomination, up from 28% who said the same in March.

That puts Biden more than 20 points ahead of his nearest competitor, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont -- who holds 15% support in the poll -- and roughly 30 points ahead of the next strongest candidate, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (8%).

Landlines, Cell phones, Texting, Online, Email. I was disqualified. Odd. This is the only poll I have received and I usually get many calls. This was a legitimate polling company. Many candidates are using his issues in a modified form. The most extreme of his issues never had traction. People are not in the mood for a revolution when Trump can be defeated in a conventional way. The "anger at the system" driven campaign cannot muster more anger when most people's anger is directed at Trump.

The smartest thing for Bernie would be to drop out and let Senator Warren carry his issues forward. However, there are two major obstacles. Ego and money.

The media, progressive intersectionalists, Bernie Bros, and MAGAts told me:

Biden is terribly out of touch with the modern democratic party.
Biden has no base.
Biden can’t appeal to anyone but white men.
Biden is too old.
Biden won’t be able to raise money.
Biden is a two time loser and doesn’t know how to run a campaign.
Biden has way too much baggage to overcome.
Biden is only name recognition.
Biden badly flubbed the “inappropriate touching” and Anita Hill issue.
Biden fondles children.
Biden is a gaffe machine.
Biden’s best day will be his first day.

What else am I forgetting?

In marketing (which is what politics is) there's a thing called the power of the new. In fact, "new" is the most powerful word in advertising. Biden has no substantial record of promoting causes important to the average American. He may have voted in our interests a few times, but just as many times he pulled an Anita Hill or wrote a credit card bill that kept the power on the side of the credit card companies.

Joe will not be the nominee.

You might at least sound more honest if you inserted "I hope" in front of every sentence.

As a Democrat I don't want to hear ad hoc schtick like this, I want to hear solid reasons why I should vote for the person who would lead us into this critical battle. I get more than enough bullshit from Republicans, thank you.

This is a different year and a different crowd. Hillary was compassionate and decent so she treated Sanders with kid gloves, never decimating him.

There will be 16+ people in the debates and most of them are running for VP or a cabinet position. They can shine by attacking Sanders and Sanders will be pinned down and exposed for the demagogue he is. It won't be pretty.

However, many mainstream Democrats would like to see Sanders exposed and rendered hopeless sooner rather than later.

There are fewer caucuses this year and most that remain allow telephone attendance - so no chance for the bros to bully.

If Sanders continues to run after it is mathematically impossible, he will be exposed even further.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Progressives talk about change, the new world we live in. Well, Biden is not yesterday’s septuagenarian—the one our myths about aging consign to knitting, gardening, and lounging in deck chairs.
He’s taking the risk, making the commitment, to put his strong intellect, knowledge, experience, and wisdom to work for the good of country.
Let American voters decide if Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders need to cede the race to youth.
Right now they are leading not because of age, but despite old fashioned ideas about it.

given that 46% were people polled 50-64 and 50% people polled were over 65. That only leaves 4% of people under 50 and the poll didn't even given statistics for those people - writing N/A instead.

Still it shows that Bernie needs to do a lot of work getting his message to the older (my) generation. But without including a large segment of the voting public - it's not a very good representation of what people are actually thinking or who they plan on voting for, IMHO.

That is encouraging for serious Biden supporters but it is a long, long, race, and early front runners do not necessarily get the nod as history shows.

I will vote for whoever we nominate, but need to wait a bit to see how it plays out. Lots of good candidates, all infinitely better than the abomination in office now.

Just as with Sanders, the age factor concerns me, and a couple of his congressional votes are of concern. But again, all of them would be better than the adult infant in there now, we need to get him out of office, likely have to drag him out, so he can be indicted.

Jan 2021 can’t come soon enough.
