Video: Community Canvass Feature - Bern App

Uploaded on Apr 27, 2019
How to use the community canvass feature.

Community canvassing is talking to people we don’t know - on the bus, at the grocery store, or on a street corner about the grassroots movement to elect Bernie and transform our country.

You can choose to host a community canvass event through the map.berniesanders.com events page and invite your friends, neighbors, or family to join you. Click here to read a guide on how to host a community canvass.

Or you can just canvass your community on your own and talk to the people around you!

Step 1: Talk to people around you, or at your canvass location, and ask “Are you planning to vote in 2020?”

Step 2: If they say yes they are planning on voting, tell them you’re a volunteer with Bernie 2020, and ask if they are willing to share their thoughts on the presidential election. A longer convo is more powerful, but somebody might just give a few short answers. Don’t forget to smile!

Step 3: Make sure to look them up and match them, if possible. Walk through the questions with the voter and, if it’s easier, you can hand them your phone. Don’t forget to answer all the questions!

Step 4: Thank them for their time and submit the form!

How to host and lead a community canvass

Hosting a community canvass is a great way to talk to a lot of people in a short amount of time. With a small team of volunteers, you can talk to dozens of people in just a couple of hours and record their responses in BERN.

>>Click here to watch a comprehensive webinar video on how to be a canvasser, and how to host a community canvass<<

Step One: Pick your meetup location and time
What are some public places near you where you and a team of volunteers could speak to members of your community? Think of places with consistent foot traffic like a park, street corner, farmer’s market, or outside of a grocery store. Make sure the spot you pick is easy to get to for volunteers - with accessible parking or public transportation nearby.

Make sure to host your community canvass at a time when there will be lots of pedestrians to talk to, and at a time when volunteers will be able to attend. In the early evening after work or during the day on a weekend are often good times to host canvasses.

Step Two: Post your community canvass on the Bernie events map
Make sure to post your event on the Bernie events map so that any Bernie supporters in your area can sign up to join you! Once you post your canvass online, the Bernie campaign will help to notify Bernie supporters in your area about your event.

>>Click here to watch a video on how to post your community canvass to the events map.<<

Step Three: Recruit your friends
As mentioned earlier, the campaign will help to recruit local Bernie supporters to come to your canvass. But YOU, the host, are the most effective recruiter. Take 30 minutes to call, text, or direct message your friends about your canvass. And don’t forget to send them a reminder message the day before your event!

Step Four: Get logged in and familiar with the app
Make sure you’ve successfully logged into the app before your canvass. Review the responses that you’re going to be asking people on the street to fill in. You should be prepared to help volunteers to log in and use the app on the day of your canvass.

Thanks for the thread Donkees.

P.S. What does "this discussion is pinned" mean?

Stays at the top, I figured it out.
