Mr. President, I respectfully disagree with your position on Syria, and I respect that you asked for

congressional approval.

I do not agree with attacking targets in Syria. Even though an atrocity was comitted by the Assad regime, we cannot retaliate. It should not be the position of the U.S. to be the world's police force, esp. if the world is not contributing to maintaining such a force.

I come to my position after reviewing the facts, not out of some rabid anti-Obama hate postings that have become extremely popular on DU, and in the General Discussion forum in particular. I am disgusted with what DU has become and what the moderators of this board have allowed, blatant lies and screeds against a president that has done more to advance progressive causes than any other president since I have been an adult.

I came to DU in 2001 after the Bush family stole the election. I survived 8 years of Bush, and when I read on this forum that Obama is is just like Bush, that stuff angers me to no end. Either such posters are plants by some organized group looking to turn this message board against Obama or they are completely ignorant. Either way, the moderators of this forum have allowed GD to become the hate Obama forum.

I disagree with my president, but I am not angry with him nor do I think that he's doing a disservice to progressives.

This thread may be pulled, but so fucking what. So what, that's just life in the new hate Obama forum.

Chemical and Biological warfare is more dangerous than conventional warfare

I'm still undecided about intervention, but I just want to speak out against the false equivalency that I'm seeing between conventional warfare and chemical.

ALL war is terrible and we should do everything within our power to avoid war. However, chemical and biological warfare is particularly pernicious. Civilization cannot condone the use of these weapons. What happens if someone uses a chemical or biological weapon that does not dissipate. That hangs in the atmosphere and makes our environment hyper toxic.

Chemical and biological weapons are some particularly nasty stuff, and you don't want to live in a world where that type of warfare is lumped into everything else. If you do, then you can kiss civilization goodbye.
