As a member of the crew, would you rather have Kirk or Picard as your captain?

This is not about whether which show was better or which actor was better. This is a about the leadership skills of Kirk vs. Picard.

So, which captain would you rather serve under as a crew member?

For me, it's Picard, hands down. Kirk had self control issues, and I don't want to be in deep outer space with a horn dog at the helm.

Looking for Opinions on ASP MVC

I am studying it now, and it's a complete reversal from standard MS development. Much more code reliant than visually reliant.

I'm not a developer though I have taken a lot of development courses in Java, C#, ASP, PL/SQL, and now ASP MVC.

So, what do you all think about ASP MVC? What is the job market like for it?

Just Saw "Zero Dark Thirty" -- You Probably Won't Like It.

It's not pro-Obama at all. It's very, very, very pro-CIA. I know why Kathy Bigelow got the access she got. The first half of the movie is defense of CIA torture tactics, Black sites, detainees, etc.

The mission to kill Bin Laden was done extremely well, and it's very harrowing. If you're a very sensitive person, you won't like it.

All in all the movie is very well made, but it's a CIA propaganda film.

For L O S T fans: A history of how the show came to be

The creation of Lost defies nearly everything we know about how successful television shows — or great ones — are made. The idea for Lost came not from a writer, but a network executive. The first writer on the project got fired. The replacement creative team had a fraction of the usual time to write, cast, and produce a pilot episode. The executive who had championed the show was himself fired before it ever aired. One of the two creators all but quit the moment the pilot was finished. Nearly every creative decision at the start of the show was made under the assumption that it would never succeed. Everyone believed it was too weird, too dense, too unusual to work. And it may have been. But it worked, anyway.

Behind Most Tax Deductions, There Are Entire Industries and Jobs

For example, look at the deduction for private planes for business purposes. You might say, yes, eliminate it because it only serves the top 1%. However, who actually builds and maintain private planes? Blue collar laborers do, and if you eliminate the deduction, you may decrease the demand for private planes which would throw those laborers out of a job.

Deductions for charities are another example. Charities employ a wide variety of workers, from medical researchers to art history majors to educators to home health care workers. Reduce and/or eliminate deductions threatens those jobs as well.

The Republicans are baiting us into a trap. They want to lower rates first, and then they try to appear as "serious budget hawks" by eliminating deductions. The trick here is that they know that eliminating or reducing deductions will bring political pressure from lobbying groups to retain the deductions.

Kill All the Bush Tax Cuts and Start Over

That's the answer. Let all the Bush tax cuts expire and start over with new proposed tax cuts only for the middle class. Get the Republicans on record as being opposed to middle class tax cuts. Let them go back to the voters with that on their resume.

Bush I and Clinton raised taxes and cut defense, and we got budget surpluses.

Also, don't fall for the tax deduction bullshit. Every tax deduction in the code has a strong lobbying group behind it. If you take away mortgage deductions, the banks and the housing industry will swarm the congress and kill any cuts.
