Judiciary Committee by the numbers

Something in one of Grassley's rants struck me: although he's the chair of the Senate Judiciary committee, he does not hold a law degree.

This piqued my interest, so I looked again at the makeup of this all-important committee:

10 out of 11 Republicans on the committee are white men (Cruz is the sole source of diversity for the Repubs).
7 out of 11 Republicans have JDs.

4 of the 10 Democrats on the committee are women; 3 of the 10 Democrats on the committee are POC.
9 of the 10 Democrats on the committee have JDs (only Dianne Feinstein, the ranking Dem, never went to law school).

To me, the difference between Cory Booker and Maisie Hirono and Kamala Harris and Thom Tillis, Chuck Grassley, and Jeff Flake is significant, and particularly resonant since so much of what this committee is going to decide will impact all Americans (regardless of gender or race) for years to come.
