republican Mo. House chief defends attempt to access gun list

What happened to the hand wringing over a gun registry?

The leader of the Missouri House says an attempt to access a secure website listing Missouri's concealed gun permit holders was part of an investigation into whether the state had appropriately shielded the information.

Gov. Jay Nixon's administration revealed last week that someone using a House computer address repeatedly tried to access the site. It said those attempts were unauthorized because information on concealed gun permit holders can only be shared with law enforcement.

Missouri Republicans vote to stop issuing driver’s licenses

Missouri state senators on on Monday voted to eliminate all funding for the Department of Revenue’s driver’s license bureau because they were angry about the way the agency was keeping concealed carry gun records...

...Melissa Wilson, wife of state Rep. Kenneth Wilson (R), told the committee earlier this month that she was certain that gun records had been shared with the federal government as a part of a United Nations initiative called Agenda 21, which some conservatives believe is a conspiracy to “transform America from the land of the free, to the land of the collective” through “a mind-control” tactic called the Delphi technique.

About that whole language thing that we kick around

This article offers a universal, yet personal argument for why it matters...

While many of us bicker over things like political correctness and our constitutional right to insult, Mr. Stephens lays bare the impact of our words:

"So, what's wrong with 'retard'? I can only tell you what it means to me and people like me when we hear it. It means that the rest of you are excluding us from your group. We are something that is not like you and something that none of you would ever want to be. We are something outside the 'in' group. We are someone that is not your kind."

Thanks to the voices of self-advocates like Mr. Stephens and student leaders around the world, people are starting to listen in ways they had never before. One conversation at time, one campus at a time, one country at a time, students of all ages have led a global effort to create a more inclusive society by bringing an end to a word and attitude that continue to marginalize and exclude people with intellectual disabilities. To date, this joined effort has persuaded millions to reconsider their hurtful use of "retard" and "retarded."

Mr. Stephens shows us why this choice of words changes not just his world but our world. Language not only informs us, language transforms us. People say that words can be divisive. But that's not the whole story. The words we use and the discrimination they engender don't create walls; they make us into walls. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/soeren-palumbo/spread-the-word-to-end-the-word_b_2819328.html

The language is mentioned is specific, but the concept isn't. The argument whether someone can tell me or anyone else whether or not we can legitimately be offended truly is uselessly divisive. People who register these complaints- whether people with disabilities, women who object to dehumanizing language, or the objections to N word only want to interact with a reception of basic respect.

Will we ever be able to consider it basic courtesy and good manners and give up the idea that there is a constitutional "right" to insult each other?

How did you get here?

To the US, I mean.

My Ancestors are mostly European, particularly Irish. No white man- no me.

Some of mine were already here, and the people and culture are beginning to feel the genocide committed by invaders.

Others were brought here to be bought and sold.

And other people have ancestors who were invited - not very politely. Because we took the territory that is New Mexico, Arizona, and part of California during the Mexican American War.

"COMRADES IN ARMS"

That is how I am going to refer to "the troops" from now on. Another gem from Our fine president.

Is there a continuum of white supremacy?

This was on a FB argument...

"President Obama isn't black, he's Bi-Racial. I don't subscribe to calling him our first black president because it would be disrespectful to his mother who is white, or any mothers for that matter who carry a child for 9 months (whatever color)."

Does anyone else think this guy is saying Obama's mom isn't getting proper credit for being white? Has anyone else run across that idea? It really turns my stomach.
