Veni, Vidi, Vici...

I Came, I Saw, I Destroyed.

How many of the mob actually went into the Capitol?

Was it several hundred?

Or several thousand?

Did most of them stay outside the building?

It appeared that the most passionate and violent insurrectionists did not hesitate to break into the nations Capitol and threaten the elected representatives of this country.

If they can arrest most of those that were inside the Capitol, they will have decapitated a large part of the Trump cult, in my opinion.

Which Republican Senators would have felt safe if the mob had come into the Senate chambers?

Do they think their close alliance with Mr Trump would have protected them?

Which Senators would have been injured by the mob? Which Senators may have been killed by the mob?

They were fortunate that a Capitol Hill policemen led the mob in a different direction. Otherwise, they might be singing a different tune today?

Those closest to Trump, starting with Guiliani and Don Jr, should be arrested for inciting ...

...an insurrection.

Rudy Guiliani, Trump's personal attorney, was at the rally that preceded the attack upon our nation's Capitol. His words were incendiary. He called for a "trial by combat"? What did he mean by that? Of course Rudy would have an explanation for that. He has an explanation for everything. That is why he is Donald Trump's personal attorney.

Merrick Garland could get off on the right foot if he arrested Mr Guiliani as one of his first acts as the new Attorney General. Both he and Don Jr should be charged with sedition against the government of the United States.

A message to the Republicans on Capitol Hill: "You can't handle the truth!"

You are weak, deluded, seditious, malleable, individuals.

You not only lie to the American people, you lie to yourselves.

If there was truly justice in this country, most of you would be sitting in prison.

You have betrayed your country.

The people do not support you. More than 2 out of 3 think you are nuts.

You are so far up the river of denial that you may not be able to return.

You should be ashamed and sorry for your acts but you don't have enough self-awareness to know your own self.

Why doesn't Trump address the nation?

Is he too chickenshit to come before the press and take questions? Don't answer that.

But, the press should be pressuring him to inform the people about what happened. I guess he must think it's not that important?

Nobody wants to talk about it?

Circle the wagons and protect Donald Trump? Is that the game they want to play?

Republicans - Still Lyin' and Still Denyin'

If they just pretend nothing happened, then maybe the people will believe them.

Those people that violently attacked the Capitol were not "patriots". They were criminals.

They had no respect for our Capitol, no respect for the law, and no respect for the American flag.

They were beating cops with their flags and throwing them like spears.

All the while screaming USA! USA! USA!

This is one of the lies that needs to be cleared up. They are not "patriots".

The Good Americans

This is from an old editorial in the Star Tribune
https://www.startribune.com/good-germans-good-americans-where-are-we-headed/486320971/

If we want to avoid becoming known as “Good Americans,” we need to recognize and resist. Recognize that there is such a thing as truth and that democracy’s foundation is premised on the existence of certain, immutable truths. Recognize that any leader who is incapable of distinguishing truth from prevarication is a significant threat to our democracy. We also need to recognize, resist and defeat at the ballot box any candidate who lacks the courage to confront those who would deliberately promulgate false facts.

By failing to confront the liars we enable them. Enabling leaders who are chronic liars encourages the liars to continue to lie. False statements that are continuously repeated take on an appearance of truth. That is what chronic liars are attempting to achieve. Repeated misstatements and untruths tear at the fabric of our democracy and are normalized by civic and political leaders who look the other way instead of having the courage to confront those in power who threaten our democracy.

If we don’t want to become known as “Good Americans,” it is essential that we resist every effort by those who would aggrandize themselves at the expense of the values that made America Great.

The Chronology of a Coup

Nobody yet knows who paid for the rally? It has been reported that it was "dark money". It could have come from Russia, so far as we know?

Donald Trump began promoting the rally a good month before it was to begin. He tweeted to his followers that it was going to be "wild".

There was a big build-up for January 6th, because that was the day that the House and Senate, led by Mike Pence, was to certify and announce the next President of the United States.

Trump had been putting pressure on Pence to announce him as the winner and to disregard the rules and traditions of the Senate. He questioned Pence's loyalty in public comments. Pence was to be his last line of defense.

But, in the interim, Trump made phone calls to Governors and Secretarys of State to try and get them to change the vote totals. Totally unscrupulous and criminal, but better than the alternative of losing the election.

In one particular incident, he was recorded by the office of the Secretary of State of Georgia. He flat out asked him to find 11,780 votes, which would have been one more than Joe Biden received. But that one vote was enough for Donald Trump.

However, the SoS of Georgia, Brad Raffensperger, refused to go along. The state election officials informed Mr Trump that he indeed had lost. There had been no fraud like he was telling his supporters. He had lost the election. But Mr Trump refused to accept their numbers or their word.

He persisted in trying to get Mike Pence to call several states in his favor. But Pence balked. He had no authority to make such changes.

Then the day arrived. The House and Senate marched over to the House floor to certify the winner one last time.

Mr Trump and his entourage were watching from the White House the events unfolding. They could see the writing on the wall with Mike Pence and the Congress as their complicit allies, such as Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and others, were ready to object to the vote counts in several battleground states.

Mr Trump and his family and friends were watching the rally down the street as the count was about to take place. They were laughing and dancing and having a good old time, it seemed.

Mr Trump had decided to go over and address his supporters as the Congress began its process of naming Joe Biden as the winner of the last election. Mr Trump timed it to coincide with the expected debate time when the objections were made by the complicit Senators and Congressmen.

He fired up his supporters. He told them they had to fight for this country if they wanted to save it. He told them there were some "strong" people that supported them and some "weak" people that did not. He drew a clear distinction for them.

By the time he finished talking to them, they were ready for battle. He told them that he would march with them down to the Capitol and they could take care of business. But, after his inciteful speech, he did not go with them. He went back to the White House to watch it on TV.

By the time his supporters marched down to the Capitol, they were an angry and violent mob. They believed, just as Donald Trump had told them, that the election had been stolen from them. Their minds had been poisoned.

They forced their way thru the police lines, with the intent to harm or kill people that were not on "their side". They were specifically looking for Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi. They were chanting, "Hang Mike Pence!" And they were looking for Nancy Pelosi to do her harm.

People died. A woman supporter was shot as she tried to go into the area where Pelosi was attempting to hide. A cop was beaten in the head with a fire extinguisher and killed. It was a violent mob and people were terrified.

All the while, Donald Trump was watching it on TV and according to reports, was thoroughly enjoying what was happening. He could not have helped to see the vast number of huge Trump flags assaulting the halls of our Capitol. He never inquired whether Mike Pence was dead or alive.

At some point, for reasons not yet known, Mr Trump gave a speech to his supporters, much like calling off the dogs. He told them how he loved them and that they should go home. Only then did they start to withdraw from the Capitol building.

The House and Senate returned that very evening to finish the business they had begun before they were attacked by the domestic terrorists, that were egged on by Donald J Trump, the President of the United States.
