The best way to "persuade" Republicans sitting on the trial of Donald J Trump?

Democrats should talk to their constituents, not to them.

Look straight into the camera when making a point, talking straight to the American people. In my opinion, this could be more effective than addressing Republicans directly or looking in their direction to respond, etc.

This may sound like a trivial matter but it is a basic communication skill.

Because it is not the Democrats that are going to put pressure on the Republicans, it is their voters. That is who the Democrats need to talk to.

Democrats can put pressure on every Republican that refuses to prosecute this heinous crime, if they can get their voters to realize the seriousness of the matter. The voters, in turn, will approve or disapprove of their Senator.

Also, Democrats need to understand that not every voter that voted for Trump is a hard-core Trump supporter. They can be persuaded to listen. It is very important that the trial not become a political drama show with the American people only spectators.

If Trump has called the Senators (jurors) on the phone, should they be disqualified from jury duty?

You know he has called some of them.

That's just the way he operates.

I would be really surprised if this has not already happened.

The American people saw what happened on January 6th.

Who are the Republican Senators trying to fool?

People saw it with their own eyes.

They know that Trump said he liked tough people, like bikers and military and general rabble-rousers. He knew who would show up in Washington when he sent out the invite for January 6th.

That was the day the Congress was to count the electoral votes and verify the new President.

Trump knew who he was inciting to violence. They were primed for it.

Now, they want people to believe they did not really see what they saw on January 6th. It was just a friendly march down to the Capitol that got out of hand. Donald Trump had nothing to do with it.

But the people know what happened.

They can continue to lie to themselves or they can face the truth.

Donald Trump subverted our election and now...

...is attempting to subvert the Senate trial for his criminal actions.

America saw what happened on January 6th.

And they see what the Republican Senators are doing now.

Who are they going to believe, the Republican Senators or their own lying eyes?

If we listen to Marco Rubio, or Lindsey Graham, or any of several other Senators, they would have us believe that nothing criminal happened.

Trump is playing on the fears of Republican Senators at the expense of our national security.

They need to lance that boil or it will poison their bloodstream forever.

Trump is like a big fat rat heading for the cheese...

He cannot go two weeks without heading for the trap . He is trying to extort the Senate Republicans into voting to acquit by declaring that he is going to start a Third Party (Patriot Party) and primary those that oppose him.

Did they really think he would not turn on them?

They have two weeks to make a decision.

Do they still want Donald Trump as the head of the Republican Party?

Or can they do better without him?

Joe Biden should try to unite the American people - not the Republicans in Washington.

That is a near impossibility at this time.

It is a waste of time to even try.

Talk to the American people, not to the Republicans who refuse to see or hear anybody else.

They do not understand the word compromise.

My two cents.

The media are reporting erroneously on the "Capital Coup".

They are creating a narrative, consciously or not, of a "Democrat vs Republican" story. It is not that at all.

Partisanship should never enter the story.

Of course, there are Republicans that want to defend Donald Trump. But that does not change the reality of what happened on January 6th.

For example, I just heard on CNN, a reporter was asking if delaying the trial until February 8th helped or hurt the GOP? That is the wrong question. They cannot make it a partisan issue. This is above and beyond all politics between Democrats and Republicans, especially those of good faith, that profess to be honorable Americans.

It is to be expected for politicians to try and make everything 'political', but this is a matter that must stand above ordinary politics. Are you listening, Lindsey?

This is about an attempted over-throw of an election and our democracy. This is not about who has a political advantage from one day 'til the next.

The media needs to stay focused on the issue. Do not be distracted by political opportunists looking to cover their asses.
