NEW: What happened before @realdonaldtrump called for re-evaluating lockdowns? His company had to close 6 of its top 7 revenue-generating clubs and hotels.

I didn’t realize until today how corona closures have hit @realdonaldtrump ’s biggest revenue generators. Six out of the top seven. (And the one that’s open is doing pretty bad, too).

"Wartime president" is going to call the "All Clear"...

...before all of the waves of bombers have passed.

Result: a lot of people caught out in the open, and nobody trusting the "All Clear" again.

Quick question about RW argle-bargle point

It looks like they're trying to hold a halo above their heads by claiming the Democrats are attempting to pile a lot of Green New Deal stuff into a relief package.

Is it pure Base Buzzword Bingo, or are there some provisions where if you look at them sideways while squinting real hard and clapping your hands even harder that you could get enough GND to have a pebble of factoid in that mountain of BS?

'Nature is taking back Venice': wildlife returns to tourist-free city

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/mar/20/nature-is-taking-back-venice-wildlife-returns-to-tourist-free-city

Look down into the waters of the Venice canals today and there is a surprising sight – not just a clear view of the sandy bed, but shoals of tiny fish, scuttling crabs and multicoloured plant-life.

“The water is blue and clear,” said Gloria Beggiato, who owns the celebrated Metropole Hotel a few steps from St Mark’s square and has a view over the Venice lagoon. “It is calm like a pond, because there are no more waves caused by motorised boats transporting day-tripper tourists. And of course, the giant cruise ships have disappeared.”

Under Venice’s strict rules of self-confinement to prevent the spread of the coronavirus – all journeys but a trip to walk the dog or buy food are forbidden – the ancient city has been transformed almost overnight.

The clarity of the water has improved dramatically. Swans and cormorants have returned to dive for fish they can now see. At the Piazzale Roma vaporetto stop, ducks have even made a nest. “Someone has put up a sign saying, ‘Don’t tread on the duck eggs,’’” Beggiato said. “All totally unimaginable a while ago.”

Trump equates sickness with weakness...

...and even acknowledging sickness under his presidency means he is weak.

That is the pathetically idiotic line of his so-called thinking.

It's really as simple as that.

Sorry, TOON posts suspended pending image hotlinking issue resolution

Hi all.

In case you haven't seen the announcement, the admins have temporarily disabled image hotlinking (i.e., seeing an image from another site in DU, not just its URL) while they work on a potential security issue that could exploit it. As one of us who was here during the 2016 hack and ensuing down time, I don't mind the inconvenience at all. Go Team DU! Patch that bug!

However, I'm not going to spend 30-40 minutes compiling a bunch of raw URLs, either. So, I'm suspending my TOON posts until the issue gets sorted out.

To tide you over, below is my source list. Check them out yourselves for your daily fix.

Edited: Image hotlinking temporarily down while DU admins make security patch

I'd been about to put up a TOON post when Preview showed something very different from what I expected. My original post asking if others were seeing the same issue is in the excerpt box below.

EarlG explains it in #5. I've edited this post to avoid more "yup, me too" posts since we have an answer.

Original post:

Anyone else seeing URLs instead of images today?

For example, below should be a Darrin Bell cartoon, but all I'm seeing at the time of this posting is a URL without the file type extension:

Just double-checking it's not just me.

"Antichrist" you say? As God as my witness, I'll never pass up a chance to repost this

From http://www.dumbingofage.com/2016/blog/antichrist/

A little context: the cartoonist, Dave Willis, grew up in a strict conservative evangelical household, and Joyce, the little kid/older kid/young woman in this progression is something of an alter-ego of his about how that bubble bursts for some people, and of some of the hypocrisies that manifest in the people for whom it doesn't burst.
