ESPN - 72% of sports fans won't attend events without a COVID-19 vaccine

Okay it's not a large or great (MOE) poll but...

Some 72% of Americans polled said they would not attend if sporting events resumed without a vaccine for the coronavirus. The poll, which had a fairly small sample size of 762 respondents, was released Thursday by Seton Hall University's Stillman School of Business.

When polling respondents who identified as sports fans, 61% said they would not go to a game without a vaccine. The margin of error is plus-or-minus 3.6%.

A compromise could be found in having games with no fans, an idea that garnered sufficient support. More than three-fourths -- 76% -- said they would watch broadcasts of games without fans and do so with the same amount of interest they had before the pandemic. Only 16% said they would be less interested, but 7% said they would be more interested.

Though there has been discussion of games without spectators, nearly half of respondents -- 46% -- said they think sports will be canceled through the end of 2020.

NYT Haberman - Trump Keeps Talking. Some Republicans Don't Like What They're Hearing.

I went deep into this one for those stopped by the paywall.

Trump Keeps Talking. Some Republicans Don’t Like What They’re Hearing.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/09/us/politics/trump-coronavirus-press-briefing.html

Aides and allies increasingly believe the president’s daily briefings are hurting him more than helping, and are urging him to let his medical experts take center stage.

Even the conservative Wall Street Journal editorial board chastised the president for his behavior at the briefings. “Covid-19 isn’t shifty Schiff,” it wrote in an editorial on Thursday, using Mr. Trump’s nickname for Representative Adam Schiff. “It’s a once-a-century threat to American life and livelihood.”

“I told him your opponent is no longer Joe Biden — it’s this virus,” Mr. (Lindsay)Graham said.

And it’s not just an overwhelming majority of voters who believe the medical experts should be center stage: Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader, personally urged Mr. Trump at the start of the crisis to let Drs. Fauci and Birx be the face of the response, according to a Republican official familiar with their conversation.

Some of Mr. Trump’s aides have quietly suggested to him that he ratchet back his public attacks on the governors who have emerged as leaders in the response to the virus. But they acknowledge their efforts can be something of a fool’s errand; the president has his style and he won’t change, they say.

Wimbledon (tennis) paid $2M a year for pandemic insurance (17 yrs.) will collect $141M

Report: Wimbledon’s Organizers Set For A $141 Million Payout After Taking Out Pandemic Insurance

Topline: The All England Lawn Tennis Association, which organizes the Wimbledon tennis tournament, looks set to recoup almost half of its losses from cancelling the event thanks to the $2 million pandemic insurance it has taken out every year for the last 17 years, Action Network reports.

Crucial comment: Ahead of the cancellation, German Tennis Federation Vice President Dick Horsdorff, told Sky Sports in Germany at the end of March: “Wimbledon was probably - as the only Grand Slam tournament many years ago predictive enough to insure itself against a worldwide pandemic, so that the financial damage should be minimized there.”

Big number: Wimbledon, which draws some of the world’s biggest tennis stars, celebrities and tennis fans to London’s SW19 each year, was expected to generate $310 million in revenue this year from ticket sales, broadcasting rights, sponsorships and more, while it has a $42 million prize fund.

My suggestion for Joe's ads

Thank the Americans people for what THEY are doing. Not just the obvious heroes but thank you for distancing and contributing.

Take Trump out of it. He’s going to take credit no matter what happens but Joe can preempt him by making the people the champions. The ones who got it done

....and with your help WE will continue to get it done.

A follow up “Morning in America” type as when we get an all clear. Having established US as the ones who did it.

My 2 cents. Thinking about sending this to the campaign - I know it will get drowned in emails but hey.

How about a SECOND TASK FORCE? Economic-Meadows Mnuchin Kudlow

I looked to see if this had been posted.

Hope they give a cool name like Space Force.

Trump preparing to unveil second coronavirus task force, officials say

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-preparing-to-unveil-second-coronavirus-task-force-officials-say/ar-BB12lZW2

President Trump is preparing to announce as soon as this week a second, smaller coronavirus task force aimed specifically at combating the economic ramifications of the virus and focused on reopening the nation’s economy, according to four people familiar with the plans.

The task force will be made up of a mix of private-sector and top administration officials, including chief of staff Mark Meadows — whose first official day on the job was last week — Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and national economic adviser Larry Kudlow, a senior administration official said.

Meadows is likely to lead the task force, though no official decision has been made, two senior administration officials said.

The White House declined to comment.

The second task force adds yet another layer to an already unwieldy bureaucratic coronavirus response process within the White House; after becoming involved in the effort last month, Jared Kushner — Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser — has also formed his own working group, which some dismissively refer to as a shadow task force.

FX miniseries "Mrs. America" - about Phylis Schlafly

Saw this advertised a lot on the Modern Family finale.

https://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/mrs-america

Starring Cate Blanchett
9 episodes

"Mrs. America tells the true story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly, played by Blanchett. Through the eyes of the women of that era — both Schlafly and second-wave feminists Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Shirley Chisholm, Bella Abzug and Jill Ruckelshaus — the series explores how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the ’70s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted our political landscape."[1]

Trump's Approval on economy FELL TO 48%

Trump approval rating for handling economy slips to 48 percent: poll

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/491875-trump-approval-rating-for-handling-economy-slips-to-48-percent-poll

The number of Americans who approve of how President Trump is handling the economy has decreased to its lowest level since September amid the coronavirus pandemic, the latest SSRS/CNN poll reveals.

Forty-eight percent of Americans said they approved of how Trump was handling the economy, down from 54 percent when the same question was asked in March. It's the first time since September and just the second time in the past year the number has dipped below 50 percent.

The percentage of Americans who believe that the economy is either in "somewhat poor" or "very poor" shape skyrocketed 30 points, to 60 percent, the highest since 2014.
