About Me

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.

Not sure about Vulcan anatomy, Ghost Dog, but I do know that the human heart hangs to the left.

Seems to me that's proof enough that it is our very physical, biological, anatomical nature to be LIBERAL. It seems we're quite literally built that way. And anyone who complains or doubts, I'd say - go complain to God.

Some kind of surgical strike?

Who gets the bill for all those rent-a-chairs and tents and stuff? koch brothers I hope? American Enterprise Institute? Heritage Foundation? Americans for "Prosperity"? Tea Party "Patriots"? "Freedom" Watch? "Freedom"works? Some other bullshit "organization" or "foundation" that's merely a highfalutin'-sounding or allegedly dignified tax dodge for their propaganda efforts? Love it! Although I'd bet they'll be trying to pawn off the expenses on the government (that they despise), 'cause they'll want the government to rescue them from their own idiocy, bad decisions, and worse planning!

Oh man...

Either way, it's quite a hot topic.

Well, let's look at YOU, then, dick.

Having another nice WAR CRIMINAL Sunday, dick?

And btw - WHO-THE-HELL CARES WHAT YOU THINK?????

And beyond!

Everything I see about him is interesting, intriguing, and enticing. He is a WUNNNNderful heir to Dr. Sagan. And we've needed one for awhile. He's a great, and accessible media-personality proponent of science in general, an excellent companion to Bill Nye the Science Guy. He brings a certain amount of sex appeal to the equation - especially for those of us nerds who fancied Mr. Spock over Captain Kirk back in the day (I was one of those). I STILL remember that "TV Guide" issue whose cover photo was of Mr. Spock with the caption - "is it sexy to be smart?" (Answer: FUCK YEAH!!!!!! Hell, I married a guy who takes his algebra books and astronomy magazines to the bathroom with him!) I love smart. I love brains. I think they're sexy as hell! And sex sells. So if the media-savvy and appealing Dr. Tyson can further the fascination with science to the "great unwashed," and bring a little enlightenment to the Dark-Ages crowd, I would say EXCELLENT!!!!!

It's not just the message. It's also who delivers it. An appealing, pleasant, nonthreatening, and sympathetic character as the delivery system - will move that message farther, and help it become more effectively absorbed, seems to me. And if there are folks who start to "get" that science is sexy, then maybe a few more young people will be fascinated enough to pursue it. And they will uplift us all.

Besides, nowadays, we've got an entire planet to save. And we NEED people like Neil deGrasse Tyson to help us make sense of the world as it is - not as fables, or various religious texts based on faith rather than fact, or traditions and trains of thought passed down from three or four millennia ago when superstition ruled the day. You can, as kkkarl rove would advocate, create your own reality. But you can't base the actual reality on your own convenient fantasy version. Not if you expect to be able to make sense of the REAL world/universe.

No shit! I read something that was so discouraging in one of the radio blogs -

Several decades ago, there were 600-some media owners. Now there are SIX. SIX!!!!!!

When does this end? When ONE single megacorporation owns everything????? That's supposed to be the "free market"??? That's supposed to be the blessings of the almighty Competition? WHAT competition? WHERE? What's to compete with when a handful of monsters own EVERYTHING???

Where is Teddy Roosevelt when we need him???

While I appreciate the experiment, I'm not likely to venture over there myself.

Life's just too short to have to deal with the contrarians I'm told are over there, including those who tend to get banned from here, and other assorted trolls. I guess everybody's gotta go somewhere, and I'm glad they can find a place for themselves. We're all battered, all day every day, by the onslaught of contrived and processed and researched and focus-group-tested and massaged and catapulted propaganda from others NOT of like mind. It gets awfully tiresome.Sometimes I just get weary of battling with people who take pride in their ignorance and anti-social preferences. I come HERE to DU to get into a relatively safe haven OUT of that. I'd rather stay here to get some relief from all of that.

Not possible. You have to have a heart to have a heart attack.

Beautifully put.

I'm sorry ANYONE has to face a terminal cancer diagnosis. But that does not change the fact that he is a SCHMUCK of the first order. All that money spent trying to destroy good people, and using his power and financial muscle for evil purposes and negativity galore. I will NEVER forget the Arkansas Project. His passing will unfortunately not squelch or in any way lessen THAT shitty business.

Oddly enough - he's a relative small-fry in the Billionaires Club. His fortune is listed at one-point-five billion dollars? That's ALL? Sure doesn't measure up that well to what we're used to having to deal with these days - the adelsons and kochs - does it?

Wonderful account! Thank you for posting this, question everything!

I love Neil deGrasse Tyson! He's quite literally a GIFT! A GIFT to this time through which we are slogging, with the human balls 'n' chains around our ankles trying to hold us back.

I cringe for our country.
