A football team in L.A. I can do without.

I've thoroughly enjoyed being NFL-FREE in this city. Too bad it's coming to an end.

About time! END another one of those dubya advantages.

He and other owners got the taxpayers to pay for a stadium for the privately-owned Texas Rangers, so he got the goodies while somebody else paid the bills. BASTARD. Hey, these owners are LOADED with money. DROWNING in money. LET THEM PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES!!!!

ESPECIALLY when THEY are the ones who pocket all the profits and benefits. The taxpayers don't get to cash in.

I appreciate where you're coming from, CharlotteVale. That sounds like where I'm coming from, too!

But it was 14 years for me, if you add pre-kinder and kindergarten. All-girls school. Total nun-run, as well. That's a rarity now even in all-girl Catholic schools just because there are so few nuns in the picture anymore. By the time our daughter got to that point, all the teachers and staff were of the laity.

I actually do see differences in this pope as compared to the last one(s). I am still waiting for SOME pope someday to join the real world and fully accept gays, FULLY accept women and women's rights, and women in the priesthood rather than the "ladies' auxiliary" off to the side. In those areas, you're absolutely correct - the Church is still HORRIBLY backwards. STILL in the Bronze Age.

HOWEVER, I do like some of what he's said and done. He's point-blank denounced "trickle-down," by name, and called it what it is. That's a HUGE step. If he's coming out with an encyclical about recognizing the urgency of climate change and acknowledging science, then that is also a HUGE step forward and away from the antiquated crap of the Vatican in all regimes past. I like what he's done regarding the poor. Heck, the last guy paraded around in expensive red Prada slippers all the time. WTF??? Excuse me??? Designer duds - for the POPE???? The Pope's supposed to be the vicar of Christ on earth, and the last thing ANY pope should be doing is prancing around in designer duds. I imagine if the story of Jesus and the rich young man is to be believed, Our Lord would not be too pleased that one of his major representatives on earth wears Prada. I've never seen a pope before this - who was so blatant about sticking it to the rich in his formal pronouncements, especially the GOP/reagan-worshipping/corporation-idolizing/money-grubbing jerks who remain on their knees praying at the trickle-down altar.

Pope Francis isn't perfect either, but he's a big improvement over Benny the Rat and the uber-reactionary JP2.

NO.

If it's gonna stick, it has to be Iraqi-only. THEY have to want it. And it seems pretty clear they don't.

Makes me think of the mom who carries her baby around all the time. Does that baby start learning how to walk on his/her own? Probably not - as long as Mom's there to carry him/her. Why should he/she bother trying to do it when Mom's always there to carry him/her around?

No kidding, my friend!

We have PLENTY of enemies in common. Why are we attacking each other?

I just wish I saw an equal amount of cooperation and conciliatory language coming back from the Bernie camp to us in the Hillary camp as I see from the Hillary camp toward the folks in the Bernie camp. It's quite lopsided at the moment. One side appears far more gracious, amicable, obliging, and accommodating than the other.

And I'm old, too. I'm old enough to remember 1968, when the rabid supporters of Gene McCarthy turned their backs en masse and stayed home and pouted on Election Day - and our only realistic chance to keep the White House in Democratic hands, our nominee being the VERY imperfect Hubert Humphrey, went down in flames. They thought Humphrey was just the worst, and we wound up getting fucking NIXON. Who was so much worse than Humphrey on ANY metric you'd care to use. And I kept thinking about those rigid and uncompromising Perfection-Or-Bust McCarthy supporters and wanting to ask them - "Well, how'd that Election Day pout-fest work out for ya? It got us a fucking republi-CON in the White House. Was it worth it??? You happy NOW????"

When the quest is for Perfection-Or-Bust, we often get stuck with "Bust".

Totally, riqster! DAYUM - when I think of the trillions that we've squandered on the Pentagon...

Even a slice of that big a pie could fund an awful lot of domestic good.

I think people forget (or it simply doesn't occur to them) that things like racism, bigotry, sexism, overzealous policing, just like the economic imbalance - it all gnaws away at our national security.

THIS, TOO, is NATIONAL SECURITY!!!!!

If you have to LIVE with this in your community, or worse - if this shit is directed AT YOU; if YOU are victimized directly or indirectly by this shit, the unrest and upheaval and divisiveness where we all start setting upon each other for the sake of our differences rather than for the sake of what binds us together into one great collective - THIS, TOO, is NATIONAL SECURITY. Every bit as much as worry about terrorism and bad guys with beards and turbans and guns and dark skin.

I'd bet that what terrorizes most Americans to the greatest extent - is the idea of the WOLF at the door, NOT some masked Middle-Easterner ringing the doorbell while wearing a suicide bomb belt. I'd bet that more people in this country feel far more terrorized and targeted and fearful for their lives - when facing a police officer than they would feel when confronted by some crazed jihadist.

Sigh... GUYS!!!! Can we STOP the goddamn PILE-ON???? PLEASE????????????

FOR PETE'S SAKE, guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm afraid the one thing that will start alienating a Hillary supporter like me will be the overly-rabid Bernie Sanders supporters posting contentious shit here. Who mean well, but MAN this is just overkill, guys!!!!

WHY do some of the Bernie supporters have to jump all over some of the Hillary supporters here and try to draw blood all the time?????

You REALLY think you're gonna win some of us over that way????

I'm sorry, guys, but THIS particular OP deserves more respect than that. As I read this (and I'm still a Hillary supporter, for a lot of the same reasons, even though I do like Bernie Sanders), it's a Hillary supporter writing declaring that he will not go home and pout and sit this one out in November 2016 if Bernie Sanders makes it all the way to the nomination. He's declaring that he will be GLAD to support and vote for Bernie! It's a loyal Dem determined to keep the White House in Democratic hands in the most practical way possible, reaching out to the die-hard Bernie Sanders supporters with a sense of true teamwork and generosity, and an olive branch the size of a Giant Sequoia. And yet it provokes the rigidity and animosity that I see here? For God's Sake, WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM, guys?????????????

I feel the same way Gman does. I have voiced that same feeling multiple times here already. And frankly, I search this board looking for the same corresponding sentiments coming back toward me from Bernie Sanders supporters - if they face a Hillary Clinton nomination instead of one for their man. And I don't see a whole hell of a lot of it.

Which is really disappointing! And extremely troubling - when one thinks ahead to the alternative we may all have forced down our throats if all we're doing is piling on each other like this. We'll wind up with a republi-CON taking the White House!!!

I see testimony that too many people on that side ARE willing to stay home and pout and just not vote. Yes. POUT. I also see a lot of "well, I'll hold my nose and vote..." which seems pretty fucking milquetoast if you ask me. And if you ask me that, at this minute, that's the opinion you'll get from me because this is starting to make me angry. You guys expect us to give in and come along. Well, if that situation presents itself, WE can be counted on to do so. Sadly, I'm not so sure we'll be able to count on those in the Bernie camp to do the same thing or even a remotely similar thing. That is TREMENDOUSLY disappointing!!!!

And I don't like being angry at my DU brothers and sisters. BECAUSE WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE SAME TEAM AGAINST THE SAME COMMON ENEMY, OKAY???

Alright. Post completed. Flame away.

June 11, 2015

Um... gee, Katie Walsh. You guys are just starting to wake up to this?

This "no accountability" thing? You all got yourselves a tiger by the tail awhile back in those koch brothers. Bet you never thought that tiger would turn around and threaten to eat you, too.

But this sentence in the story ...

"The RNC is now openly arguing, however, that the Kochs’ political operation is trying to control the Republican Party’s master voter file, and to gain influence over — some even say control of — the GOP."

... My goodness. The kochs' political operation is trying to control the GOP's master vote file ... and some even say control of the GOP. TRYING to control the GOP????

TRYING to control the GOP????

BULLSHIT on that "TRYING" to control the GOP.

They already fucking OWN the GOP.

No wonder she and her GOP pals haven't been able to notice or see this for so long. Because they're already deep down inside the dark belly of the Beast. And they've been there for some time now!

That's the Riviera Country Club in the elegant Pacific Palisades. Where the reagans lived before

they went to Sacramento. That was OJ's country club. And they asked him to leave after what happened. Sherwood Country Club - I wonder if that's Lake Sherwood-related? Out in the hills of Thousand Oaks where the lawns are large and green and well-manicured, and there are those white low-level horse fences everywhere. I used to know some people who lived there. Nice spreads out there, around this pretty lake where they had 4th of July parties every year.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
