Welcome to DU, Sekhmets Daughter!

Glad you're here! This is a place where most of us tend to believe that we ARE our brothers' keepers, and that we ARE indeed obligated to look after "the least of these."

Let's make sure wrongney does NOT get anywhere NEAR the White House, except maybe for one of those White House tours.

Now get to work. We have a President to RE-elect!

September 20, 2012

I had this conversation with a conservative girlfriend - who didn't want to have to pay for

everybody else's birth control pills. You know, the kind of people his lordship mittster of wrongney dismisses as "lazy moochers." I told her that wouldn't matter because I, for one, would be THRILLED to help pay for poor women's access to contraceptives. And I put it to her - "seems like a much better bargain to me - a few bucks a month in taxes going toward preventing unwanted pregnancies, OR would you rather have to pay many many more dollars a month in taxes for the care and feeding and other support for all those unwanted children who start flooding the system because their moms couldn't get access to affordable birth control or other family planning services?"

Oh. (Moment of silence followed.)

Well, uh, hmm, she kinda mutteringly admitted that she, um, hadn't thought of it that way.

Then she conceded that I had a good point. She's also edging back around from viewing me as a "baby killer" because I believe in a woman's right to have the last word over what happens to HER body. She actually admitted that she doesn't want to see Roe V Wade overturned!

Yep, he actually did say that. We rewound and replayed it several times.

He only paid capital gains - telling newt gingrich that if gingrich's let's-get-rid-of-the-capital-gains-tax tax reform plan were to pass, it would have meant he (wrongney) paid NO taxes for - what did he say? A couple of years?

Walmartyrs - THAT is a GREAT one, diane in sf!

Let's make that one go VIRAL!

September 19, 2012

Absolutely. Look at OUR presidents (I mean the Ds). After their terms end, they go out to

do good for the world, using their presidential leverage. What did reagan do? Aim straight for the "mashed potato circuit," where he intended to rake in the speaking fees (the first one out of the gate, with the Japanese, paid him two million dollars). He got only that far before his Alzheimers became unavoidable.

I'm delighted with this whole turn of events. I feel like it's Carter's Revenge. Just think of it - the smug self-satisfied poseur who would presume to declare himself the heir of st. ronnie - might actually wind up getting his presidential balloon deflated by Jimmy Carter's grandson.

Welcome to DU!

We just have video evidence now to confirm our earlier suspicions. It's all that's changed.

Glad you're here! We need you to help us all keep this cold-hearted calculating phony-ass bastard OUT of the White House!

Now get to work.

But how is she voting?

That's what really counts. There will still be astounding numbers of people who vote for him while still knowing what a mean, smug, arrogant, cold, unfeeling, greedy cheapskate he is, and sincerely don't like and/or have doubts about the guy. But they'll hold their nose for him because they hate Obama more.

Go figure. Doesn't make any sense to me.

What we're looking for is more people coming home - to what is REALLY America's Philosophy: Liberalism. Open, welcoming, sharing, kind, compassionate, room for everyone, a safe haven where we are ALL on a level playing field.

This presents a STERLING opportunity, maybe once in a generation, to rehabilitate and take back the word "Liberal." To reintroduce it now that people can see, more clearly than ever, the true nature of the CONservatives these days. You can see their "hearts" (assuming they have any - and their behavior suggests the answer's NO). We can reshape the perception of it. An EXCELLENT opportunity to compare and contrast - when the Liberal mindset comes out SO ridiculously positive by comparison. For all you minimalist or simplistic thinkers who see the world as being black or white, good or bad and nothing in between, are you comfortable with that rigid world view? Do you really see it that cut 'n' dried? Which is better? This? Or that?

And a few reminders of what liberals have done or enacted or fought for - over the decades - that's improved the lives and livelihoods of millions of Americans. Including stuff they all like and even paint protest signs to support, such as Medicare. That never hurts either.

Welcome to DU, Lois B!

I find myself thinking that exact same thing. MAN would I love to hear Olbermann's take on this. Sometimes when I watch the cable shows, I wonder how various interviews would go if he were on there, or how he'd hold somebody's feet to the fire that the host at the moment isn't doing well enough.

wrongney is a one man Insult-a-rama and I WISH SO MUCH that Olbermann could sound off on a decent a public platform somewhere, the more prominent and broad-based the better.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
