Somewhat serious - how long does it typically take...

To correct a social security/ birth certificate discrepancy?
Background - slacker soon to be ex-son in law's parents did not coordinate when they signed him up for a social security number. The birth certificate had a hyphenated maternal/paternal last name, and his father's parents took guardianship of him immediately, didn't use the birth certificate but used his hospital discharge papers with the paternal last name only to get his SSN. He was able to get through 26 years of school and get a driver's licence and jobs (mostly under the table) without presenting his birth certificate.
He says he tried getting a Real ID when he let his drivers license renewal lapse for a year, and the system finally caught up with him. His DL and SSN are now flagged and he can't use either, or file his taxes (would be for the first time in his life), or get a job, or as he finally admitted, a COVID shot, even though he still has his expired DL and his old SSN card, and I know people who got shots with expired licences.

Supposedly, he put in the paperwork for the official name change on the BC last November, got the updated BC in January and now he says he's filed to the name change with the Government back in February and is just waiting on Social Security to update his file or something like that to get the SSN flag taken off.

I don't think name changes at Social Security takes that long, and the whole SSN flag issue seems suspicious. AKA changes and Marriage name changes don't take 6 months or longer, nor have I ever heard of someone being flagged when they're in the middle of such name changes.

Since his whole family are well-off GOP/Trumper types with a nasty streak of "laws don't apply to us" (i.e., Orange County Republicans), I suspect the entire story is a lie, and he's just being the sorry slacker his family raised and never put in any paperwork.
So I'm asking, is 6 months a legit amount of time to wait on a name change reconciliation with Social Security?

Would someone's SSN be flagged and unable to be used just trying to get a driver's license renewal? When spouse's DL expired and he waited too long, they gave him a choice between regular old DL or a RealID, and didn't make a fuss about his documents.

Odd discovery on tic-toc currently resulting in research on Twitter.

On Hank Green's (PBS Sci-Show host, other You-Tube/Vlog education channels)Twitter feed he and some other scientists are discussing a tic-toc clip where a spider can apparently see into the infrared spectrum beyond where people can normally see.
At the time I'm posting this, they're also talking about how some people can also see further into the infrared ( as in, they can see the infrared signal from more modern remotes that don't have the extra red LED lights as a battery check) and his Twitter channel is discussing how this can happen and how to set up research.

Social media the way it is supposed to work.

We had a mass shooting Thursday, just another one that no longer makes news.

https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/good-samaritans-tackle-suspected-shooter-in-gaslamp-quarter/2586328/

One dead, four wounded; still trying to figure out why a young white guy decided to get himself a ghost gun and start shooting random men on the street on a Thursday night.
Two unarmed good guys stopped his rampage, tackling the shooter from behind and holding him for the police.

I hate the vaccine appointment site with the fire of a thousand burning dumpsters...

Did the state contract with Albertsons to push getting shots at store pharmacies that don't have openings? How can I get to the country walk in or drive through locations - every time I select one, I don't get any notice to check back the next day, I get sent to the F'ing Albertsons site.
Whether you pick location or date.
There should be a "these locations have "x" available appointments on "y" days" that updates as soon as someone picks a time selection so you don't waste time going through every single selection from the beginning just to lose days.

I know we have millions of Californians who need the shots, but damn, I've been getting up at 4 every morning since Monday and wasting an hour and a half on the county vaccine site trying to get an appointment at any of the 35 possible sites they give me.
I even switch up zip codes...

Nada. I'm calling my local community centers directly to find out how to bypass that Albertsons portal.

On edit - a coworker just told me to check with the VA; I have a DD214, so CAL-VETs here I go...

Silicon knee injections - upside, in six weeks, might be able to walk fairly normally again...

Downside - knees will be stiff and getting out of chairs will be a count-down battle for the next 3-4 weeks while the silicon settles to where it is supposed to be. Dr. says "lots and lots of ice and Voltaran for the duration.
And the gel only lasts maybe a year.

Well, better than a month or two off for knee surgery, while I'm still the family driver.

I held Princess while she passed

She was 18, pretty old for a cat who started life with us as an untrusting, grumpy lynx-point polydactyl pixie-bob mix who might have been three but was most likely five or six.
She quickly became a daddy's girl with Laz, took her about four or five years to warm up to me. Eventually, she became a happy cat who actually loved car rides to the vet (mainly because it was only to clip her claws and everyone lived her brilliant china blue eyes and cuddle bug attitude. She took to a leash, loving to visit people.
But she started fading last week, and took to just hanging out in the main bathroom. She was still eating up until this morning, so we were going to call a home vet tomorrow, but she started having seizures after dinner and passed within an hour, after cuddles, pets, and murmurs on how she was a good girl and it was okay to go.
The granddaughters didn't really understand what was going on until we started wrapping her up to take to the pet cremation place tomorrow. They are still crying. So am I, now that it's over.
The other cats left her alone all week, they figured out what was going on.

Farewell Princess, we will see you on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

I'm tired of all these poor MAGATs saying they were acting within their 1st Amendment Rights.

I may be a simple urban retired Chief and Sea Lawyer, but I do know a few things...

1. 1st Amendment rights end when the felonies begin. Breaking windows doors, or other items, shitting on floors, and semi-permanent Vandalism (i.e., spray paint, etching, or permanent marker instead of sidewalk chalk) is not a 1st Amendment right for "free speech", "assembly for redress" or any of the other rights enumerated under them.

2. Threats and boasting of violence or violent activity is not protected. If you threaten to bust my nose because of my
Penzies bumpersticker, you are committing assault, even if you never took the swing (that's the battery). If you threaten to burn my house down unless I sign up to be part of your MLM scheme, that's threats and extortion, amongst other things.
If you are part of a mob shouting "Find Pence, Hang Pence" - you are committing a felony.

Now, silly MAGAt, if you were really just exercising your first amendment right, you would have remained outside with your signs and your Trump Cape, and stayed outside instead of following the crowd of thugs and looters. I'd even suggest you use your cell phone to take pictures and videos of the mob, or maybe just hightail it out of there once you started seeing evidence that this was no longer a protest or protest march, but a fucking riot where people and property are getting damaged.
Being part of a mob is not being a "peaceful protester". Being part of a mob is just as protected under the Constitution as being part of a pack of feral hogs.

Possible Scam alert? Deterra sent to us without notification.

We just got a package sent to us with my spouse's correct name and address from a company - AOMBD out of St.Louis, MO.
Inside was a bag of Deterra drug deactivation system product. For passing drug tests or something like that?
We have no idea why we received it, who ordered it, whatever. They seem to be a legit third party seller on Amazon, but still, we never ordered anything like this, nor would we have need to, as Laz stopped taking medical marijuana years ago and his card expired at least 5 years ago.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Not sure if we want to send it back to the P.O.box on the return label, or just toss it?
