Aristus
Aristus's JournalFriday Night No-Buzz Thread. Ask me anything.
I've been driving Mrs. Aristus and her daughter to the knitting convention in town. Having a beer with dinner (Greek), but just one.
Turns out, Trump didn't need a Reichstag fire. Senate Republicans handed him everything he wanted.
No accountability.
The Nuremburg Laws won't be far behind...
Called the Registrar of voters for Pierce County this morning, to confirm my status.
I'm in.
But I'll be checking every six weeks or so until the election. If my registration disappears for any reason, I'm going to be very unpleasant to be around...
Friday Night Wine-Buzz. Ask me anything.
I did a pretty powerful Indica, too. So my answers may not make a lot of sense...
Finally stopped raining here in Washington.
I swear, the Puyallup River was going to breach at any minute. They had to close one of the bridges spanning the river yesterday as the waters breeched the levee on the north bank.
Please, just give us a break from the downpour for a while so the waters can recede...
What an exhausting day...
Not just the politics (although that's a huge part of the problem), not just the death of icon Kirk Douglas.
I may have mentioned a few weeks ago that one of my patients died. Well, her boyfriend (also one of my patients) came in this morning just as we were opening. 8am and he was already three beers in. Drunk and crying. He had fallen off the wagon again, and wanted us to get him back into treatment. His ex-wife won't talk to him, and he's about to get evicted from his place, so he'll be homeless again.
Needless to say, it was tough trying to get him back on track. I alerted our behavioral health provider, who was at the mainstream clinic a couple of blocks away, and our substance abuse care coordinator.
My patient alternated between tearful regret and drunken aggression, so it was hard to bring him down to Earth. I'm grateful for the relationship I have with him, because every time he would start to get belligerent, I would talk quietly to him, and he would calm down, burst into tears, and say how glad he is that he knows me.
I think of this man's suffering, then think about how oblivious the idle rich are to the suffering of people like him. The rich never pay the price for their heartlessness; they get second chance after second chance because, in our country, a person only matters if they have money.
Anyway, thanks for listening. I'm going to go to pub trivia in a little while and have a drink.
Holding on until Friday, when I can tie one on, and forget this shitty week for a while...
I just made a donation to Arizona's Democratic Party. And I'm not an Arizonan.
The Democratic Party in Arizona is focusing on registering First Nations people such as the Apache and Navaho to vote. Right now, anyone without a permanent address is prohibited from voting in state and national elections. As I understand it, an address on a reservation is not considered 'permanent', thereby excluding from voting many First Nations people.
Just another voter suppression measure put in place by the Arizona Republican Party.
I read an article (and I'd post the link if I could remember where I read it) that stated that no electoral math can be made to work in Trump's favor in November without Arizona. He could win Texas, Florida, and every other state he carried in 2016, but he'd still lose if he doesn't get Arizona.
If every eligible voter in the Apache, Hopi, and Navaho nations votes in the election (they tend to lean Democratic, from what I understand) Arizona will turn blue.
I donated some money to help them with this effort. I hope a lot of people will.
