Exhausting day in clinic today. Some very complex, time-consuming patients. Hold me...

And not a drop of alcohol in the house for a nightcap...

For the Irish, and the Irish at heart, a celebratory blast from the past.

From 2008, to be exact.

Sing along!...

Hallelujah! One of my patients (a former working girl) is now out of the life and off the streets!

I was overjoyed when I heard. She's happy, healthy, working a steady (and legal) job, and is generally doing well. Saw her today; she couldn't be happier. she's made a real turnaround.

Life is good!...

I had to tell a patient today fairly firmly to stop texting during the clinic visit.

She was establishing care, and had some mental health issues. And she just casually sent a text off while I was trying to get her past medical history from her. I ignored it the first time, but when she reached for her phone a second time, I told her: "Why don't you put that away for now? Otherwise I'll have to terminate the visit, and we can do this another time."

I felt like a bit of a heel, especially when she teared up after I told her. But seriously!

I was half tempted to tell her that I had a waiting room full of people wanting a visit who wouldn't text during their evaluation...

Fairly interesting day today. I had to send another new patient to the hospital for possible drug overdose. Found out later she had been admitted to the ICU after urine tox revealed a fairly potent drug cocktail in her system.

I'm ready for a drink...

I'm a veteran, and a pacifist. And I'm a little disgusted by the disrespect voiced toward the Tomb

of the Unknowns, and those who guard it.

Believe me, no one opposes immoral military action more than I do. But let's not bleed it into those who fell during whichever American war is currently the least popular.

I marched in opposition to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I despise George W. Bush for sullying America's name with a fascistic, greedy, illegal and opportunistic war for oil.

But if you can't say something respectful towards the Unknowns at Arlington, or towards those who have guarded them 24/7/365 since 1937, please don't say anything at all.

Yes, you have a right to. But that doesn't mean you should. We're the good guys. We need to behave (and talk) like the good guys.
