Joan of Arc was put to death for making rape more difficult.

History says witchcraft, but Joan was put to death for the capital crime of wearing men’s clothing. Trousers made it more difficult for an enemy soldier to exercise his ‘right’ to rape. Skirts made that easier. Joan of Arc was executed for defending herself against the possibility of being raped.

That jaw-dropping level of ghoulish misogyny is alive and well in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Do women routinely try on each others' shoes?

Let me back up and explain that question.

My poor stepson has been married and divorced twice so far (I may be biased, but neither was his fault at all). Both times, he was married to a woman who, among other transgressions, thought nothing of rooting through Mrs. Aristus' closet and trying on all her shoes. Mrs. Aristus has small, delicate feet, and neither of them did, so they ruined more than a few pairs.

Is this a thing? Do women actually do this? Or was this just a symptom of the larger issues plaguing the women my stepson chose to marry?

It may not be related to anything, but

the guy down at the end of the street has taken down his "Let's Go Brandon!" flag. Just noticed it the other day. I wonder if he's been watching the hearings.

Whew! Drained a sebaceous cyst just a whisper away from the patient's left eye.

Tricky business. I'd been reviewing the procedure over and over in my mind all week, and today was the moment of truth. It's always ticklish getting a blade that close to a patient's eye. I felt like that guy in the movies who has to cut the correct wire on a time-bomb.

Got it done, and now the relief is washing over me...

I'll be having an especially stiff drink tomorrow night to celebrate...

I've been navigating an ocean of paperwork to get a patient a new prosthesis.

I'm still far out of sight of shore on this one (I'll end the analogy there.)

I keep getting approval forms to sign. Diagnosis: Hx of BKA - History of below-the-knee amputation.

Prognosis: (This is the one that really busts my buttons.)

I finally wrote: "No evidence to suggest that patient's leg will grow back."

Which is my way of saying: "JUST GIVE HIM HIS DAMNED PROSTHESIS!"
