otohara's JournalPete Carroll Makes All Seahawks Players Take Yoga And Meditate
The Seattle Seahawks are undoubtedly the most poppin team in the NFL today. They have the cool west coast coach, a swag star for a quarterback, some fresh-ass uniforms and some of the rowdiest fans in the league.
But there is, of course, more than meets the eye. The Seahawks have one of the most intimidating defenses in the NFL, with one of the most prolific secondaries who makes life impossible for guys like Colin Kaepernick. But its more than just great coaching and personnel that makes this team so great; its the preparation.
Some of these notable Seahawks techniques have been revealed, after it was published in a recent edition of ESPN The Magazine that players are all mandated to meditate and do yoga. Head coach Pete Carroll admitted that his guys are all required to take a class. This, of course, goes hand-in-hand with the meditation, which all of the players also do.

Does The Today Show Talk to AM Joe Frequently?
I hope Today asks for a quote from Ms Rachel Maddow tonight.
Joe Scarborough had nothing but laughter Monday when asked about recent pushback from Gov. Chris Christie's administration over a negative story about the New Jersey governor. Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer alleged on Saturday on MSNBC's "Up With Steve Kornacki" that Christie withheld Sandy relief funds to force her to approve a certain development plan -- a charge the governor's office has denied.
On Monday, "Today" host Savannah Guthrie asked the "Morning Joe" host about a statement issued by a Christie spokesperson that "MSNBC is a partisan network that has been openly hostile to Gov. Christie and almost gleeful in their efforts attacking him." But Scarborough, who has been open about his close friendship with the governor, had already begun laughing before Guthrie could finish.
"They're obviously not talking about 'Morning Joe,'" he said. "John Heilemann calls our show 'Good Morning Trenton' because we love Chris Christie so much around here."

Flashback - Chris Christie Picked The Wrong Guy to Call A Liar
Bret Schundler, the man New Jersey's governor insulted and fired, is fighting back -- and he's got e-mails
Steve Kornacki - 2010
You can certainly understand why Chris Christie threw his education commissioner, Bret Schundler, under the bus last week. After all, it was Schundlers department that botched the states Race to the Top application, costing New Jersey five points on its application the difference between $400 million in federal money and nothing.
But Christie, the states first-year governor, didnt just fire Schundler for incompetence: He called him a liar. Loudly and repeatedly. He felt this necessary because when the news of the botched application first broke last Wednesday, Christie publicly blamed the Obama administration, claiming that Schundler had supplied the data that was missing from the application budget numbers for the years 2008 and 2009 in advance of his formal hearing with the federal Department of Education. The real blame, Christie insisted, was with Obamas army of inflexible bureaucrats.
Thats the stuff the Obama administration should answer for, he thundered. Are you guys just down there checking boxes like mindless drones, or are you thinking? When the president comes back to New Jersey, hes going to have to explain to the people of the state of New Jersey why hes depriving them of $400 million that this application earned.
This argument quickly unraveled when a videotape of Schundlers hearing was released, showing that the education commissioner and his team were blindsided by the error and unable to provide the missing data. When that tape emerged, Christie changed gears, branded Schundler a liar and fired him.
Dont lie to the governor. Thats the message, he declared.

Armed Man Threatens Nurses, Kills Self
this time, it's a hospital.
DAYTONA BEACH A 20-year-old man killed himself with a shotgun inside a patients room at Halifax Health Medical Center early Sunday morning.
Daytona Beach police officers were first alerted to the shooter, Jonathan Rodriguez-Jeff, of Deltona, at 3:52 a.m., when they received a call about a moving car being shot at on Clyde Morris Boulevard. Not long after, another call came in about shots being fired inside the hospital.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the Rodriguez-Jeff shot out the glass door at the entrance to the hospitals Professional Building and made his way to the second floor of the hospital.
Daytona Beach Police Department spokesman Jimmie Flynt said the man confronted a nurse and patient inside a room and asked them, Do you guys want to die tonight?

Another "Accidental" Shooting - 14 Year Old Girl
Colorado Springs Teen Shot, Killed by Stepfather.
Police say a 14-year-old Colorado girl was fatally shot by her stepfather after a report of a burglary at her home.
Colorado Springs police spokesman Larry Herbert said the girl's stepfather fired the shot, but said it was unclear if he had mistaken the teen for a burglar.
Police say the girl was shot around 6 a.m. Monday and later died at the hospital.
The stepfather hasn't been arrested and it will be up to prosecutors to decide whether charges should be filed. Colorado's "Make My Day" law allows residents to defend themselves against intruders. http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/colorado-springs-teen-shot-killed-stepfather-21314426
Lockdown Nation
We routinely terrify and traumatize kids to spare them terror and trauma.
This is the way we live now.

Wingate, N.C., Wednesday, Dec. 4: All of Wingate University placed on lockdown after two people were fatally shot on a nearby street.
Nashville, Tenn., Wednesday, Dec. 4: Rutland Elementary School on lockdown after man crashes car nearby and escapes from police on foot.
Thats just a fraction of them. And thats just one week.
Every day in this country, a school goes into lockdown after a bomb or a gun threat, a neighborhood crime or domestic dispute, or a false alarm. To prepare for such events schools must have (as mandated in some states) lockdown drills to train students on what the appropriate lockdown procedures are.
I find myself joining many other parents who worry that in teaching our children how to behave when somebody storms their classroom with a gun, we have unloosed something dramatic upon them without much serious reflection. Lockdowns are simply what we do now. My sons elementary school was locked down the first week of school this fall when shots were heard in the neighborhood. He tells me they all pack themselves into the closet. Hes 8. But how often should we have lockdowns and why and when and how do they work? How are parents notified and what happens to the kids in the bathroom or off campus and who is studying the effects of all this?http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/crime/2013/12/lockdown_drills_what_are_school_shooting_trainings_teaching_kids.html

Horrific Animal Abuse - Cattle Farm CO
WARNING the video is extremely disturbing - baby calves being thrown into piles and trucks.
An investigation into a cattle company near Kersey has led to several people being cited for animal abuse, including the animal activist who turned video footage of the alleged abuse over to authorities.
Taylor Radig, who has been associated with animal rights organization Compassion Over Killing, worked as a temporary employee at Quanah Cattle Co. near Kersey from mid-July to September 2013. During that time, Radig filmed hours of alleged cattle abuse at the company and turned her videos into the Weld County Sheriffs Office two months after she stopped working there, according to a WCSO news release.
When talking to investigators, Radig referred to herself as a contractor for the nonprofit animal advocacy organization, which is based in Washington, D.C.
By not reporting the alleged abuse in a timely manner, Radig was seen as negligent and cited for animal cruelty, a Class 1 misdemeanor. Shes also believed to have participated in the cattle abuse incidents reported to the sheriffs office, the news release said.
