SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) A San Francisco supervisor said he consulted a Ouija board before city leaders voted on whether to recommend naming a Navy ship after slain gay rights activist Harvey Milk.
Supervisor John Avalos told the San Francisco Chronicle that he believes he made contact with Milks spirit and that Milk spelled out letters indicating: Good riddance to dont ask, dont tell.
The Board of Supervisors approved the non-binding resolution Tuesday on a 9-2 vote.
Milk was a city supervisor and former naval officer. He was fatally shot in 1978 by Dan White.

Senate Dems back increase in air travel fee to close funding shortfall at TSA
Source: The Hill
The Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday moved forward with legislation to increase airline passenger security fees, beating back a GOP attempt to keep them at current levels.
The 2013 Homeland Security appropriations bill would increase one-way fees for passengers from $2.50 to $5 in order to close a shortfall at the Transportation Security Administration.
Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) said the $350 million in funding would otherwise come from taxpayers and argued it is better to stick passengers who rely on TSA with the bill.
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) and Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.) sponsored an amendment to strip out the fee increase and offset the loss of revenue with cuts to state and local grants, emergency food and shelter funding, and to cut $89 million in funding for a new highway interchange leading to the Homeland Securitys new headquarters in southeast Washington, D.C. Hutchison noted that the Senate had decided not to increase the fees in the recent Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill.

Carney unsure whether Obama will back Rep. Rangel for reelection
Source: The Hill
White House press secretary Jay Carney declined to say Monday whether President Obama will support Rep. Charlie Rangel's (D) bid for reelection in New York.
"I'll have to get back to you on that," Carney said during the daily White House press briefing.
He added that Obama does want to support a Democrat in Rangel's seat.
Rangel is facing some of the toughest opposition of his 21-term career in the House from Democrats challenging him in the primary. The most serious challenges come from state Sen. Adriano Espaillat (D) and Clyde Williams, a former aide to the Clinton and Obama administration who has locked up the support of many of his former colleagues.

Tomblin says he's uncertain whether he'll vote for Obama
Source: Charleston Daily Mail
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Democrat Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin said he - like Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. - does not know if he will vote for President Barack Obama or Republican Mitt Romney in the fall.
"I do not believe that either candidate has a real understanding of what is important to West Virginia," Tomblin said Tuesday.
Tomblin said in statement released by his campaign that he was a "loyal member of the Democratic Party" but was concerned by fellow Democrat Obama's "misguided policies."
Still, Tomblin is also worried about Republican measures backed by Romney that could affect Medicare and Social Security, two programs crucial to West Virginia's 300,000 residents 65 and older.
