Carson just finished saying: "If it's a majority of people in that area want a Confederate flag to fly, I certainly wouldn't take it down. . . . Who's to say that even some of my own ancestors weren't proud to be slaves under its banner? . . . Maybe thousands of them teared up to the strains of Ol' Dixie Mine and wept to be part of the land of cotton that stretched out beneath that glorious flag! . . . I mean whose to say anyway?"
