About Me

I am retired, now a professor emeritus at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where I taught in the English department for 37 years. I've written 4 chapbooks and 5 full-sized books (all listed as poetry though many include other genres as well), including _Sheer Indefinite: Selected Poems, 1991-2012 (Univ. of New Orleans Press, 2012). I've also written a 500+ page bibliography of three contemporary poets: Robert Creeley, Ed Dorn, and Robert Duncan. I am writing now, both fiction and poetry, more now than ever. My first vote for President of the United States was for Dick Gregory in 1968 (Bowling Green, Ohio). Favorite quote: "It's easy to be an idealist if you don't have to mind the evidence, but no one said it was supposed to be easy" (Richard LaPauvre).

"The 1st Amendment doesn't cover the media." . . . Please come CAPTION Donald Trump!!!

Donald (They can pile it this high) Trump is saying: "I'll tell you, folks, how dishonest the media is. You all know when I wrote that Tweet, I put quotation marks around the words 'wires tapped,' meaning not really. . . . Like just the opposite. . . . So when I wrote tapp my phones without quotation marks in the second tweet, I didnít need them because they carried over from the first. . . . That's the rule. . . . But the press doesn't tell you that, now does it?

Above CAPTION attempting to remind us that there was one tweet without quotation marks. Letís not let the shiny object of the first, let us forget there was another for which Trump has NO explanation:

"The truth is whatever I say today!" . . . Please come CAPTION Sean Spicer!!!!

Sean ("Don't make me come down there" Spicer is saying: "The White House utterly condemns the dastardly and criminal act of stealing two pages of The President's 2005 tax returns. We consider it a brazen felony against President Trump and the entire nation. . . . But to answer your question, The President is not interested in discovering who leaked these returns. . . I know we've gone to great pains trying to find leakers before, but we've decided, with this one, to just let it drop. . . . We're feeling generous. . . By the way, did you see how good those returns made the President look?"

Above CAPTION based on the following Huffington Post story:

"CIA can put sensors in your toilet so they can know how you wipe." Come CAPTION Kellyanne Conway!!!

Kellyanne (The Golden Cobra) Conway is saying: "Are you kidding, Donald Trump is the sanest man I've ever known. . . . Why he never locked his daughter in the closet for over 26 hours or made her watch Lawrence Welk reruns until she vomited. . . . He never called his sister a "skanky opportunist" while spreading rumors about her fetishes all over town. . . . He never wore army boots and kicked his naked wife around during their honeymoon just to hear her cry for mercy. . . . Yes, Shepard, I've know may men and Donald Trump is saner than any of them."

"What's so wrong with Eugenetics?" . . . Please come CAPYION Rep. Steve King (R IA).

Rep. Steve King is saying, "I'm not a racist, I'm a patriot! . . . And I know we'll never restore our country to greatness by letting a bunch of lay-about, no-work, car-on-blocks, drug addled, taco eating immigrants into our country. . . . That's not racist; that's just the truth. . . . Now I'll bet the left-wing media will attack me for that."

Above CAPTION based on the following Crooks & Liars story:

The mind's a terrible thing to baste. . . Please come CAPTION Sandra Smith (Fox) & Thomas Massie!!!

Sandra ("I've not had an original thought since grade school" Smith is saying: "But Congressman Massie, certainly you can't call the Republican health care proposal a 'stinking pile of garbage.'"

Thomas Massie replies: "Sandra, that's only because the bill proposals have only been out a day or so . . . They haven't had time yet to stink!"

Fighting truth relentlessly, 24/7. . . Please come CAPTION Rep. Steve King (R IA)!!!

Rep. Steve (truth-deaf for over 40 years) King is saying: "I simply can't believe the polls, Chris, that you suggest show the majority of American support the Affordable Care Act. . . . And do you want to know why? . . . It wouldn't make any sense for all the Republicans in the House and Senate to be against it. . . . Why would they ever do that? . . . That would be just plain stupid!."

Above CAPTION based on the following story with a clip on Crooks & Liars, where he used something similar to this logic from 2:08 through 2:31:

"Obama was seen planting listening devices in the Oval Office!" Please come CAPTION Sean Hannity!!!

Sean ("I always bring the lube" Hannity is saying: "So now we know at least two things for certain. Number one: it was the CIA, using stolen malware which would implicate the Russians, that hacked the DNC. Isn't it curious that they were the ones who both claimed to discover the hacking was the work of the Russians and then, conveniently, it was the CIA who confirmed the reports of Russian hacking! . . . How obvious can you get? . . . Two: it was the CIA who doctored and then released reports of General Flynn's contacts with the Russian Ambassador and then got him to lie about them to the Vice President. . . . . . It's getting harder and harder to believe!!!"

Above CAPTION based on a clip of Hannity preserved at Media Matters:

Added on edit.

CAPTIONing at DU is a creative activity.

Chief liar for hire. . . Please come CAPTION Sean Spicer!!!

Sean ("I've not slept for 40 years" Spicer is saying: "Jim, Jim, get a grip. . . . Of course we should take what the President says 'at face value,' but there's a tendency for you people to take what he says too literally. . . . I mean, it's like you have blinders on . . . There are so many other ways and not just figuratively, but there's analytically, sparingly, symbolically, systematically, and alphabetically. . . . Heck, there are thousands of ways, . . . but you people pick the single way that's the most damaging. . . . Can't you see your own bias?"

Above CAPTION based on the news conference New York Times story below:

(He actually did request they take what the President says "at face value" but complained later about the press "taking him too literally." This sh*t is impossible to make up.)

"And slaves had free health care." . . . Please come CAPION Ben Carson!!!

Ben (Self-lobotomized) Carson is saying: "And guess how much passage across the Atlantic cost an African immigrant in the first half of the nineteenth century? . . . You're right, zero, nothing, zilch!. . . It was all for free. . . . While other immigrants from England and Europe, for example, had to save up for years to get to America, Africans came at no expense to themselves whatsoever!. . . . So when hear call for reparations, I wonder who owes who?"

Like diarreha, it runs in the family. . . . Please come CAPTION Sarah Huckabee Sanders!!!

Sarah Huckabee (the Fairy Princess of nightmares) Sanders is saying: "Listen, Martha, when President Trump said it was a fact that Obama wiretapped him, he was being crystal clear. . . . If you can think outside of the left-wing media bubble for half a minute, you'd realize he meant that the reports of Obama's wiretapping were facts which means the possibly of being wiretapped by Obama was a fact, . . . and that pretty much says it all. . . I mean it's only logical: the possibility must be treated as a fact! . . . Therefore it's a fact. . . .How could he be any more clear?"
