About Me

I am retired, now a professor emeritus at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where I taught in the English department for 37 years. I've written 4 chapbooks and 5 full-sized books (all listed as poetry though many include other genres as well), including _Sheer Indefinite: Selected Poems, 1991-2012 (Univ. of New Orleans Press, 2012). I've also written a 500+ page bibliography of three contemporary poets: Robert Creeley, Ed Dorn, and Robert Duncan. I am writing now, both fiction and poetry, more now than ever. My first vote for President of the United States was for Dick Gregory in 1968 (Bowling Green, Ohio). Favorite quote: "It's easy to be an idealist if you don't have to mind the evidence, but no one said it was supposed to be easy" (Richard LaPauvre).

"When I look in the mirror I get confused." . . . Please come CAPTION Fox's Brit Hume!!!

Brit (brilliant-when-alone) Hume is saying "Well, Bret, it's obvious to a number us who have studied this matter and thought deeply about it over the past several years, as you know I have. Benghazi at this point boils down to a single thing: a cover-up of a cover-up of a cover-up of a cover-up! . . . Think about it! . . . How did they get to Issa? . . . Why did Ailes tell us to 'Shut-up already!'? (And in not-such polite language.) . . . Nothing else makes a bit of sense."

Above CAPTION not based on anything so much as the awareness of Fox's silence after The House Intelligence Committee cleared the administration of all wrong-doing. The deafening hush after two years of hysterical mouth frothing as documented in the following Media Matters story which mainly consists of a film of Fox's past nastiness and insistence on Benghazi.

"I'm teaching Prevaracation 101." Come CAPTION Steve Scalise, the House's new Majority Whip!!!

Steve ("I've lied my way to the top; why stop now?) Scalise is saying: "Why the heck shouldn't I let lobbists vet my staff? . . . That's who they'll be working with!"

Above CAPTION based on the following Politico story:

Running on empty! . . . Please come CAPTION Fox's Steve Doocy!!!

Steve ("I make a vacuum seem crowded" Doocy is saying: "You said it, Brian: Obama is just as guilty of killing that general as the slimeball terrorist who pulled the trigger. . . By declaring our war in Afghanistan over, our president gave the terrorists a green light on the slaughter of American troops! He might just as well have murdered the General himself.. . . Talk about grounds for impeachment!!"

Above CAPTION based (rather closely in fact) on the following Media Matters story):

"Well, Hubby's no John Wayne, I'll give you that." . . . Please come CAPTION Michelle Bachmann!!!

Michelle (the-frozen-molasses-of-intellect) Bachmann is saying: "Listen, I've thought this through . . . all the way. . . . Since it takes the Senate to impeach the President, but the Senate won't vote on impeachment, then we, The House, can vote to impeach the Senate. . . . Simple as that. . . . After it's gone, we'll be the only ones left, so we'll by default have the constitutional power to get rid of Obama at last. . . . Don't you wonder why no one else thought of this? . . . Makes you suspicious, doesn't it?"

Above CAPTION loosely based on the following story in Mother Jones:

"Who's been squeezing my falafel?" Please come CAPTION Bill O'Reilly!!!!!

Bill ("I'm my own favorite rodent" O'Reilly is saying: "Listen, the truth of the matter, the heart, the core, is that the reason The Republicans haven't found any wrong doing in the Benghazi Scandal PROVES, . . . ABSOLUTELY PROVES!!! . . . beyond any shadow of a doubt, that Obama, his staff and advisors, Hillary Clinton and several members of the State Department criminally conspired to cover up all wrongdoing. . . . There simply isn't any other answer! . . . Now for our Back of the Book Segment."

Above CAPTION Loosely based on the following Media Matters story:

"Ebola, smebola. What's in it for me?" . . . Please come CAPTION Rush Limbaugh!!!

Rush (never-stained-by-the-truth) Limbaugh is saying: "Well, if it doesn't take the cake, . . . hell, Obama's running away with the whole pantry this time!!! . . . You're not going to believe this, ladies and gentlemen. . . . First, the White House invents rumors out of whole cloth that the Republicans all want to impeach Obama in order to raise funds for Democrats, . . . now Obama is trying to politicize Ebola!!! . . . Instead of having actual compassion and treating the infected American doctors in Africa, Obama puts them on an arduous plane ride (these are deathly sick people, remember?) and brings them back to the States so we can all have a warm fuzzy moment about how great we are, always taking care of each other and stuff. . . . Geez!!! How many knucklehead out will actually vote Democratic come November because of this moment???. . . . He puts the entire nation at risk just to get more Democrats elected. . . . Politicizing Ebola, it's too much!!!. . . If anyone was looking for impeachable offences, well . . ."

Above CAPTION somewhat loosely based on the following Media Matters story:

The morally inarticulate hair-style! . . . Please come CAPTION The Donald!!!

Donald ("How can I expect to listen to anything better than myself?" Trump is saying: "I say, don't bring any Eubola cases here, even if they are doctors! . . . Listen, what's a doctor, anyway? . . . A flesh mechanic, that's what! . . . And when he signed on, he knew the danger and took his chances . . . Just like the guy who decides he's going to rob banks knows he'll do a couple stretches in the pen over a lifetime. . . . Or like the guy who decides to drink all the time had better be ready for cirrhosis. . . What's so special about a doctor anyway? . . . I say if you wanta go and get Ebola, don't expect us to welcome you with open arms back here!!! . . Of course, we're a compassionate nation, but that just doesn't make sense."

Above CAPTION based on the following Huffington Post story:

What rhymes with zero? . . . . Please come CAPTION Head Wreck!!!

Glenn ("I wouldn't give a nickel for a cent of sense!" Beck is saying: "In my age, I've gained wisdom. I've learned to calibrate. To judge my own and others' actions and words. . .Ten years ago, I sensed a presence at the edge of my skin, and said 'Okay, bub. You want in? Come on in!' . . . And then I put up with year after year of snarlings and tearings and rendings apart. . . until finally a dervished angel tied me back together with clouds and gave me translucent wiper blades made out of his wings for my eyes. . . . Like I said, as I've grown older everything makes more sense. . . . Sanity is a wonderful thing."

Sainthood awaits, at least it keeps waiting. . . . Please come CAPTION Liz Cheney!!!

Liz (Heart-of-the-Middens) Cheney is saying, "That's right, Monica. . . . Telling the world we tortured people is infinitely worse than the original torture, . . . infinitely worse!!! . . . Why, it's downright traitorous! . . . Think about it. . . . When we torture someone, only a single person gets hurt, . . . but when we admit we tortured someone the result is exponentially worse: it undercuts the belief we are a Christian nation and the rightful leader of the world. . . . Impeachment is too good for Obama if you ask me!!!"

The above CAPTION is loosely based on Cheney's appearance on Hannity on Aug. 2, 2014 as reported by Raw Story:

"Sometimes lies are not good enough. But that's very rare." Please come CAPTION Fox's Eric Bolling!!

Eric (Thought-will-get-you-nowhere) Bolling is saying: "Just how is putting National Guard troops on the border anti-Christian? . . . That's what I'd like to know! . . . Listen to me carefully, Bob. . . . We don't know what Christ would have done. . . . That was a long time ago . . . Almost 2,000 years!!! . . . Back then people weren't faced with hard choices and difficult moral decisions!"

Above CAPTION based on the lack of moral rational or political will of the Republicans to deal with the humanitarian crisis on our southern border, with thousands of children from South American stranded and detained.
