Hello, I'm Steve DeShazer, formerly known as StevieD.

I'm probably nuts for using my real name, but they'd know how to find me anyway.

I found DU in the summer of 2001 and lurked for a while, finally jumping in around March 2002. I can't believe ten years have passed and how much has happened. I think DU had about 5000 members then.

When G.W. Bush was installed as pResident in 2001, and 9/11 happened, and illegal and immoral wars were started, I thought the whole world had gone insane. After ten plus years here, I've learned that it's even worse than that! DU has kept me out of the asylum the whole time. If Skinner, Elad and EarlG had not created this cool thing I might just be in a padded cell. Thanks, fellas.

I live in Portland O with my wife Ms. D, and our very large lynx point Siamese cat, Jack. They jointly rule my life. We have two adult children who also live in Portland. I'm fortunate to have met a pretty good number of fellow DUers in person who also live here. For a small city, Portlanders are well represented on DU.

Despite having an excellent job at the start of the Bush reign of error, I'm now a delivery truck driver making about 50% of what I made in the post-Clinton economy. Thanks, Supreme Court tools.

Please vote for President Obama in November. We can't afford to let Willard Robme into the White House!

If you're new here, hit me up. I won't bite!

Peace and love,
Steve

Pig Man Limbaugh inducted into Hall of Famous Missourians in "secretive ceremony"

Rush Limbaugh honored at Missouri's Capitol

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh was inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians on Monday during a secretive ceremony in the state Capitol as police stood guard to keep out any uninvited political opponents of the sometimes divisive radio show host.

The timing of the ceremony was kept secret until shortly before it occurred, and then only Republican lawmakers, other invited guests and the media were allowed into the chamber to watch — an attempt to avoid any public disruption after Limbaugh's selection was criticized by Democrats, some women's groups and other political foes.

If you must hide your honoree and sneak him into the state capitol to make the award, maybe the asshole isn't worthy of honor.

Love how they made his fat head even fatter in the bust. But overall, what a bleeping disgrace.

Catholic Bishops Are Investigating The Girl Scouts

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2012/05/11/152506374/catholic-bishops-are-investigating-the-girl-scouts

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops sent an "official inquiry" to the Girl Scouts of the USA. NPR's Barbara Bradley Hagerty reports the bishops will investigate whether the iconic group has ties or views that conflict with Catholic teaching.

"The new inquiry will be conducted by the Bishop's committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth. It will look into whether the Girl Scouts have "possible problematic relationships with other organizations" and problematic program materials. Conservative groups accused the Girl Scouts of associating with Planned Parenthood, which they deny, and giving girls access to information about sex and sexuality. The group says it takes no position on sexuality, birth control and abortion.

"The Girl Scouts have been dogged by complaints — the Scouts call them distortions — for decades. This challenge from the Catholic Bishops is significant, because many of the troops are sponsored by Catholic parishes and about a quarter of all scouts are Catholic."

Can you believe the hypocrisy?? Wow.

Envelopes marked "anthrax" in Oregon being tested

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/05/10/us-usa-oregon-envelopes-idUSBRE84905120120510

<snip>
(Reuters) - Emergency officials were investigating two envelopes containing white powder and marked "anthrax" found in Portland, Oregon, on Wednesday, one at a downtown Hilton hotel and the other at an airport.

Preliminary tests on the envelope from the Portland International Airport found nothing dangerous, according to fire department spokesman Paul Corah. Airport offices were evacuated, but operations at the airport were not disrupted, he said.

Results of tests on the envelope found at the Hilton are expected later Wednesday evening. Offices at the Hilton were evacuated, but not the hotel.

Earlier in the week, a similar envelope was found in offices of Portland's Lloyd Center shopping mall. That envelope was found to contain benign material. Corah said he did not know if the incidents were related.

He said he did not know if the letters were sent through the U.S. Mail.

Anthrax? Haven't we been here before?

You won't see this on the news, but I saw a bunch of awesome people today.

As a 50+ American worker, I have a crappy job. Because I have to. Because no one else will hire me.

So I'm driving my delivery truck (recycled auto parts) through town this morning and I rolled up to a stoplight. And on one corner, there's a Bank of America branch. Nothing special, a small branch next to a mini-mall thingy.

But out front, there's a bunch of people holding signs.

"Stop The Foreclosures"

"Join A Credit Union"

"B of A Steals From Homeowners"

These weren't canned mass-produced signs like the Teabaggers carry. These people cared enough to make their own signs and stand on a street corner. There were a couple of armed security guards blocking the door of the bank. None of the demonstrators posed a threat. Most of them looked just like me, regular working men and women in their fifties and sixties, grey-haired Americans who are pissed off enough to stage a completely unexpected demonstration because they are pissed off.

I wish I had the time to pull my truck over long enough to support them, but I did give a mighty horn honk and a big wave and thumbs-up, which they acknowledged in return.

Sorry, I don't have pics, company policy prevents this.

But if you were at the B of A on 242nd and Stark in Gresham OR today around 10 am, thanks for representing the 99%.
