Atticus
Atticus's JournalIMHO, if a person known to be unvaccinated or who represents themselves as unvaccinated
intentionally approaches and coughs on someone, that is at least an assault, possibly battery.
If it happens to me, I intend to defend myself as though the person tried to punch me.
Does Kevin Gough---defense counsel for Mr. Bryan in the Arbery trial---spell his first name with
one "K" or three?
For those unable to watch the defense closing in the Arbery trial---in a nutshell:
"Defendants' did nothing at all wrong because---WHITE PRIVILEGE!"
OK to stop the victim.
OK to demand victim identify himself.
Ok to demand victim explain his presence in "their" neighborhood.
The attitude is nauseating!
I just heard my TV announce that we are "down" to "only" 1100-plus covid deaths per day.
Folks, that's like four jumbo passenger planes crashing EACH DAY!
This damned Trump plague is NOT over. Get vaccinated. Get a booster. Wear a mask. Avoid indoor crowds.
It strikes me that, in the context of the Kenosha killing, the Arbery murder, Charlottesville and
the January 6th violence, Gosar's anime is very much akin to yelling "FIRE!" in a crowded theater.
"Free speech" my ass!
If we Democrats and progressives vote for EVERY DEMOCRAT in 2022 AND get our friends, co-workers,
neighbors and kin to do the same, we will prevail easily and do great things.
If we don't------we won't.
That's the midterms in a nutshell. They cannot defeat us: we can.
I have a suggestion for Trump's next stalling tactic after his "has-been executive sorta privilege"
is put to rest.
He can claim the "obese hair-dying lift-wearing pussy-grabbing liar named Trump" privilege.
That one is no less silly and equally as valid as his current claim.
Go for it, Donny!
Within the past 48 hours, the news has included an airport panic caused by an "accidental discharge"
of a firearm, a shopper "accidentally" firing her concealed carry pistol while rummaging through her purse in a store and, tragically, a TWO YEAR OLD who was rushed to the hospital after shooting himself in the stomach with a parent's pistol.
Within that same time period, I have read posts here encouraging DUers to consider "arming" themselves. Don't.
I am sure I could get a concealed carry permit here in Illinois if I sought one, but I have no interest in one. For one thing, if someone ever shoots me (again), I don't want them to be able to justify it by claiming I was "going for my gun".
For another thing, how could I criticize them for "packing" if I did the same? What is wrong for them is wrong for me,,
Finally, I have always believed that if you have to carry a gun in order to feel like a "man", you ain't one, sonny. You ain't one.
This isn't "rocket surgery". What needs doing is obvious to even the dullest among us.
If proof of vaccination and properly worn masks were MANDATED in order to gather with others for any reason, enter any building open to the public, attend any school or use any form of transportation available to the public, the covid crisis would be so diminished by Valentine's Day we could go out for dinner without fear.
It has always been true that reality has some very sharp edges. We just do our best to
ignore them. We ran into these jagged shards of human nature in Kenosha and it has bloodied many of us.
We can no longer avoid the truth that some of us make no effort to hold our vestigial reptilian brains in check; we celebrate the monstrous impulses and act on them. These people we call psychopaths or sociopaths have always moved among us, but the evolved majority forced them out to the dark hiding places beyond the fringes of "decent" society. 2016 changed that.
Donald Trump, a monster by any meaningful standard, reached out to these kindred spirits of his and welcomed them into his base; into his administration; into the light of society. And, by and large, we looked the other way.
Unaccustomed to real pain and hardship, we chose to avoid the discomfort of confronting the chanting spittle-flecked hordes as they swirled out from under the rocks to which they'd been banished for generations. We hid behind platitudes and rationalizations. We could not say that they ever "crossed the line" simply because we never drew one. Instead, we hoped that "someone would do something."
The seeds of the Kenosha murders have always existed within each of us. Until Trump, we refused to allow them to germinate, let alone bloom. We are now at a point where our only hope is the scythe of hard honest facts---another "sharp edge" of reality.
