Atticus's JournalDoes anyone else consider the casual acceptance of cruelty and dishonesty by supposed "political
consultants" and campaign managers offensive?
I know I am a dinosaur and "things are different now", but I think some things should be constants: honesty, decency, empathy and tolerance, just for starters.
I am dismayed to hear well-known political commentators explaining that "some" Republicans are suggesting that their candidates abandon the MAGA/Q-ANON extremist views, not because they are cruel and built on lies, but because they LOST elections for those who adopted them in 2O22.
Think about it.
If blithering fascist idiots like Oz and Walker and Lake had WON last year, their disgusting "Trumpisms" would be considered perfectly acceptable and candidates who wanted to WIN would be counselled to parrot them.
I don't know. Maybe my vintage idealism is actually foolish naivete, but I would sure like to hear the concepts of right and wrong discussed now and then when campaign strategies are being hammered out.

Just FYI, East Palestine residents, if you care: you are the occasional "regrettable" victims that
the guy you helped put into the White House did not care about when he did away with the rail safety regulations that would have prevented the derailment in your backyard. He was more concerned about saving Norfolk Southern money than he was with protecting you and your families.
You happily hopped on the "TrumpTrain" and now it has run off the rails in your home town.
Not happy about your pain, just reminding you who caused it.
Are there any among those Republicans who have declared---or are "considering" declaring---
their intent to seek their party's nomination to run for POTUS who you would trust to watch your dog for an hour?

There is no more soothing, comforting, healing human emotion than love.
By definition, it takes us outside the prison of our selves and bids us follow our brave but fragile hearts, not our sturdy rational minds.
It need not even be reciprocated. Loving is never wasted, never truly in vain.
I am bent and scarred and have failed at much, but I have loved. No one has ever done anything better than that and my soul smiles for having thus succeeded in life.
Everyone knew that slavery was wrong but---"nothing could be done".
It was terribly unfair to prohibit women from voting but---"nothing could be done".
Allowing gay people to marry was a no brainer and denying that right was cruel but--- "nothing could be done".
Of course, black people should not have been unable to be elected POTUS or VPOTUS but---"nothing could be done".
Right wing religious zealots should never be allowed to force women---or little girls---to endure an unwanted pregnancy, but ------------
Seriously?
As long as the AR-15 is being considered as our official "national firearm", I have an additional
bill to propose that should please those who so love America's most prolific people killer.
Let's replace that old-fashioned "red, white and blue" with a "Stars and Bars" modified to more perfectly represent the MAGA/Q-ANON/ RIGHT WING WHACK-JOB "core values": a brightly flaming cross superimposed over the top inverted triangle of the Confederate battle flag with the motto "Fuck Your Feelings!" stenciled across the bottom.

And, on that Final Day of Reckoning, the multitudes sat rapt before their chosen "Sources of All
Wisdom"---which were named "Cable" or "Snapchat" or "Twitter"---and watched in awe as prophesy was fulfilled.
As had been long ago foretold by all Woke Folk, the Non-woke Folk, called by the name "Comatose", were required to lay upon the altar of Democracy all the evidence they had accumulated to prove Woke Folk incompetent and evil.
They cast their eyes at each other and then at their toes with which they suddenly felt the urge to draw tiny circles on the ground. Eventually, they indicated that one of their number known as "Cruella the Mouth" would speak for them.
"Take care" she was warned "that you spew no falsehoods, lest the Eternal Scythe of NoMalarkey" cut you down!"
And, she stood before the people and all listened as she opened her mouth and---gulped, said "Uh----" and ran swiftly into the Desert of Silliness where she could live among her kind.
"It's a miracle!" the Woke Folk cried as one and the Comatose began to slowly open their eyes.
And, serenity and common decency once again prevailed across the land.
If you need to kill several hours, start listing all the Republicans who ought to be
in prison but aren't.

I just listened to a discussion of Russian atrocities on MSNBC and one that was mentioned was the
kidnapping of Ukrainian children and transporting them to Russia without their parents.
Yep! Only monsters would take children from their parents, right?
