I think that I shall never see--- a MAGAT writing poetry

They just don't seem to have the knack
Of writing words that don't attack
Of metaphors and similes
And synonyms and meter---PLEASE!

The only verse they've memorized
And often doubtless plagiarized
Was written in a squiggly scrawl
Upon their grade school bathroom wall.

For now, the sun is out on this Illinois Mother's Day. My Mom died too young 24 years ago,

but she still lives in my heart.

Especially at this time of year, I see Mom everywhere---the red cardinals and ruby-throated hummers she loved, the redbuds and dogwoods she taught me to love and the sweet Williams, Dutchmen's breeches and Jacks-in-the-pulpit we used to pick on walks in the woods.

Overhead, as wedges of geese wing north, I recall watching these from our back yard as Mom hung damp just-washed clothes on our wire clotheslines.

She gave me all that and much much more. How could I not say I still love her?

Happy Mother's Day, Mom.

A vote is a vote.

An "enthusiastic" vote doesn't count any more than one cast by a voter holding his or her nose.

So, your candidate didn't make it past the primary; so, the Democrat on your ballot is, in your opinion, "too liberal", "too conservative" or "morally flawed"; so, the Republican yard signs and bumperstickers in your area outnumber ours 10 to 1; VOTE IN NOVEMBER AND VOTE FOR EVERY DEMOCRAT ON YOUR BALLOT!

With exceptions too few to even mention, any Democrat we can elect will make YOUR life better---more just, more humane, more tolerant---than any Republican.

And, yes, I know all about the GOP efforts in many states to overrule election results they don't like. But, you know what? If we don't GOTV, they won't even have to decide if they are REALLY willing to silence the voices of their constituents and they won't have to defend their fascist bullshit in the courts. We will have conceded the game before they even had to suit up and take the field.

Democrats---young, old, rich, poor, urban, rural, no matter what creed or color and no matter who they love---VOTE!

I AM A DEMOCRAT!

I recall a bar room fight scene from a movie I saw decades ago in which there was, I believe,

a disagreement about loud music or something equally minor. When a middle-aged man at the bar said "Turn it down!", a twenty-something guy stood up dramatically, approached the man, assumed a series of martial arts stances and cried "KARATE!"

The man at the bar rose and, without hesitating, broke a wooden chair over the young man's head and while standing over him as he lay crumpled on the floor, quietly said "Chair" and returned to his beer.

Sometimes mere words don't work and action is required.

I wonder if this might apply to dealing with Putin.

The GOP primary season is when billionaires go shopping for a pet Senator or Representative.

There are apparently some real bargains available this year.

Thus spake FDR, on November 4, 1938:

"I venture the challenging statement that if American democracy ceases
to move forward as a living force, seeking day and night by peaceful
means to better the lot of our citizens, fascism will grow in strength in our
land."

Could we please start calling fascists "fascists"?

A fascist is simply one who supports "fascism".

According to Merriam-Webster, fascism is "a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition."

Is that not pretty much an exact description of what the Trump party has been trying to accomplish since 2016? The former GOP is now the AFP, "American Fascist Party".

In WWII, not all fascists were Nazis, but all Nazis were fascists. Today, not all "Republicans" are Nazis, but most are fascists.

The visible and invisible leaders of the Trump cult consistently favor corporate interests over those of the common individual. They prefer autocracy to democracy and openly insist that the "non-elites" just aren't smart enough to govern themselves. And, when push comes to shove, they will not hesitate to violently neutralize any serious threats to their control of our government or their personal wealth and power.

They're fascists, folks. Call them what they are.

Every damn Trump SCOTUS appointee lied through their teeth at their confirmation hearings

about their views on Roe.

When do you the impeachments start?

Oh, yeah---the Republicans in the Senate wouldn't vote to convict, so let's not make them vote "NO" on TV.

Never mind. Just keep smilin' and noddin' while these fascist whores in robes decide who they'll rape next.

I hope William Ernest Henley will not mind---

"It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
We are the masters of our fate,
We can make our nation whole"

-----paraphrase of the last verse of "Invictus".
