Do you recognize this?

"Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bed sitter people look back and lament
Another days useless energy spent
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colors from our sight
Red is gray and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion"

That's the last spoken portion of "Nights in White Satin".

Somehow, it still impresses me.

Those who voted for Trump because his "art of the deal" produced a small fortune must understand:

he started with the LARGE fortune his daddy left him.

Who could be surprised that the same people who asked why President Obama was

not "in the Oval Office" on 9-11 are the same who are now asking why the tax returns of Obama and Biden haven't been "made public" since Trump's were.

Think about it.

How to react to GOP indignation about the public release of Trump's tax returns?

Loud laughing.

Not a giggle or a chuckle---real side-splitting LAUGHTER; think "guffaws"; think tears rolling down cheeks.

Schadenfreude, thy name is "Donald"!

As aggravating as they can occasionally be, some folks are to be pitied fo their negativity.

These are those prone to picking nits, constructing strawmen or indignantly railing about "what the poster REALLY means to say".

How depressing it must be to be constantly "on the attack" even when surrounded by friends.

Yeah, I know---this will piss off and disgust some here, but some will agree.

I am weary of reading about how the threat of violence by the MAGA/Tea Party/Proud Boys/Oath Keepers/Q-anon Rambo-wannabes should be taken into consideration when decisions about who should be prosecuted are being made.

As clearly as I can say it: if these skulking masked cowardly thugs are all it takes to intimidate "the system" and let smirking traitors go unpunished, this democracy will not deserve to survive.

I do not believe there will be anything approaching the "civil war" that some predict if we "dare" indict and prosecute Trump. If some of the deranged Trumpies are stupid enough to start playing soldier in an effort to keep "their president" out of prison, the survivors will be promptly arrested and, in due course, prosecuted.

And, these miscreants should not buy into the ignorant assumptions that we "liberal snowflakes" are all unarmed pushovers. Not wanting to hurt people is not the same as "won't fight back".

So, let's "hew to the line and let the chips fall where they may". And, if that pisses off the camo cavalry---we'll deal with it..

When the Republicans "take over" the House next week, they'll be like the dog who finally

"caught the car": they'll find that they are totally unable to follow through with all of their barked threats without suffering painful injuries.

At least the dog had the good sense to admit defeat and slink away.

We Only Have This Moment

We only have this moment
So let us live it well.
We each have our own story
That's ours alone to tell.

Sometimes it may take decades
To finally find our voice.
Though some will remain silent
And pretend they have no choice.

We can love or hate each other,
But know this ere you're gone:
Hate dies with the hater
But the lover's love lives on.

Three friends met for coffee one late January morning and the conversation soon

turned to their New Year's diet resolutions.

One guy said he had started the year at 200 pounds and was pleased that he was already down to 182.

The second man admitted he'd not done too well; started at 196 and was only down to 193.

When the third guy was asked how he was doing, he sighed heavily and reported "I'm down to 4."

"Four? Four what? What do you mean---'Down to four'?" the first guy asked.

"When I get out of the shower", the third man began, "I dry off, put the lid down on the toilet and climb up on it. Then, I step off, land flat-footed on the floor and time how many seconds pass before everything stops moving."

"Like I said" he mumbled after sipping his coffee, "I'm down to four."

The surest way to insure that we accomplish NOTHING is to require that we not even

try until we are 100% certain that we have 100% of everything we might possibly need once we begin. That is a recipe for stagnation.

Of course, thoughtful planning and organization are needed, but virtually no undertaking has ever been risk-free. And, seeing that someone is willing to "stick their neck out" is sometimes enough to motivate unexpected others to join the fray. As the old song says: "Start me with ten who are stout-hearted men and I'll soon give you ten thousand more!"

An excuse not to act that is cut from the same cloth is, of course, "But it's never been done before!" Conservatives build their political careers on the pledge to never do anything for the first time. We have never before had to deal with the reality that we permitted an international adversary to place a career criminal---a thug--- in our White House. OF COURSE we will have to do some things we've never done before and without any "guarantee" that our first efforts to right the ship of state will be successful.

We don't KNOW what will happen if we try alternative X, Y or Z, but we know what will happen if we do nothing.
