I was googling on the reasons that led to Germany's slide into facisim.

I found a site that seems to be the class lesson taught by a Mrs. Burns in a school in Virginia. I am not posting this as an endorsement of the lesson although it seemed quite good. However, there was a page that listed the reasons why so mean people fell for fascism. The last reason listed on that page seemed to be tailor made warning about this country's future if we do not stop the corruption of our politicians and courts by corporations and groups like the Tea Party.

It is referred to as "The Boiled Lobster Theory" It is said that a lobster dropped in a pot of very hot water will immediately jump out. A lobster put in a pot of cold water, which is then heated, will not notice the problem until it is too late. Most Germans, Italians, and Japanese who watched the rise of fascism in the early 1930s did not notice or know how bad it would all turn out. By the time they did fully understand, those who objected knew perfectly well that to speak out would mean arrest and maybe death.

This may be a well known theory to the many well read members of DU but I had not read of it before. I saw it as a perfect way to describe what I fear will happen here if we elect people like Romney to run our country.

The arrogance of Rupert Murdock seems to have known no bounds.

Thank goodness the hacking scandal has slowed him down in the UK.

Now how do we take him and Fox down over here. I wish there was a group or movement that was working on that. That type of unchecked power is dangerous. Can you imagine how much more powerful his organization will become if Romney wins.

I read an article about Romney that I think should get more attention if it is true.

Apparently all his children have trust funds which pay them millions of dollars each year and the taxes on them are paid by Romney.

If this is true, does that mean he uses that to get tax breaks and are his children getting millions of dollars reach year tax free. That sounds really strange and if it is even close to the truth, the democrats should certainly use this show how unfair our tax system is for working class people.

So who else was in the conference call on the Alan Grayson telephone town hall meeting tonite.

It was just amazing. He is the progressive's dream candidate. I entered the queue to ask him a question but I think there every progressive in the west was in the call. I wish he lived in California and I feel sure he will make it it back into congress.

He is the most progressive candidate EVER. i just hope he wins.

Less than 1% of the registered voters of Kansas voted today

for Rick Santorum. I know he will spin that into great victory but it really shows just how turned off the voters are with their choice of candidates for the republican party. I think they should be very worried.

There is this terrific site that lets you start your own petitions.

I am sure most DUers know it well. I have been meaning to try it out whenever I have read about things or events that I think should be changed and I finally started one. I realize that it is probably not going to go viral, it would be great to have a few signatures, besides my own, on it

You can read it here (I am sure it could have been worded better but what the heck. its my first one) and if it is something you think is reasonable, would you please sign it

I just watched the recording I made of Bill Maher's Real Time.

One of the guests was Bob Lutz, a former vice chairman of General Motors. He believed that it was government policies that had caused the failure of the automobile industry in this country. These policies had led to a weakened industry and the mortgage crises was the final straw. I had to replay the tape to make sure that I had heard him correctly as I could not believe that he would use such a self serving explanation of its failure.

I am a long way from being an economics expert but I do know that companies like Toyota, Honda, BMW and even Ford all managed to survive without government help and I really wanted one of the panel members to ask him why that was. The fact that he would not acknowledge that his company bore any responsibility in their epic failure was mind boggling. But if he was typical of the mindset of the people running the show at that time, I can see why they failed.

I just hear this headline being read on TV and it really got my attention:

The candidate (I think it was Santorum but was not paying attention) is leading in all categories except women. The fact that fifty percent of all voters are women, this should be really bad news. However, in the circus that is is known as the republican presidential race, I feel sure this the statistic would hold true for all the candidates.

I think this is going to be a great election for the democrats.
