between Winnie and Beaumont, both directions earlier Tuesday.
This is what the exit ramp from 59 n to I-10 east, downtown Houston, has looked like for a couple of days.

Evacuation prior to last Friday was the last time it would have been feasible. Friday was too late.

The dearth of
"Let Texas drown", "give it back to Mexico", "keep Austin, f--k the rest", etc. for the past few days has actually been welcome.
I've posted here for 15 years and I have regularly seen comments from people denigrating the entire state, as if everyone living here -- even those Texans posting on DU, FFS -- were Republicans. And I have only rarely seen those comments removed. It just seems to be the kind of blanket hate that gets tolerated.
Houston went Clinton 54-46. Corpus is part of South Texas, a high concentration of Latino Democrats. While there has been a vast amount of support form this community, the few bad apples can spoil the barrel (if you don't use full ignore efficiently, anyway).
It's the thing about this place I don't like the most. I despise this lingering bias more than I do the residual "fighting the last primary" shit.
The emoticon was missing
Not that you needed to insert it on my account. Thanks for clarifying.
Near Houston (where I live; high and dry this morning) is a small town called Cleveland, which has a long history of Klan activity. So even perusing your profile and noting you were probably from the big town in Ohio, I read too much into the missing sarcasm smiley.
Not particularly credible
No date on the piece linked. Way too much bombast in the headlines on other articles at home page. Has an embedded ad getting past my blocker and an "allow notifications" popup.
I avoid bombshells like they were actual bombs these days. YMMV.
The referral code at the end of the NYT URL in the OP -- from late October last year -- has "theproudliberal.org" sourced, which seems like the same kind of confirmation-biased website that "learn progress.org" is. These two sites are exchanging links and traffic to build up their hits for lowbrow advertising.
Here's the NYT link, with the referral source code at the end stripped out. Read it -- particularly the correction at the very end -- and compare to the opinion piece from Learn Progress.
My humble O is that there is some lingering smoke but no actual fire here.
Certainly wish
we could get rid of them both. Beto O'Rourke has a real shot at taking out Lyin' Ted.
But it serves no good purpose for DUers to denigrate the entire state with so many good Democrats in places like Austin, Houston (54-46 for Clinton in 2016), and in the RGV, where Harvey has wreaked so much havoc. Stop crapping on Texas on DU, please.
