Please stay out of Coeur d'Alene, ID, on Sunday afternoon

A Coronavirus Spreading Party (aka a "Freedom Gathering&quot will be conducted at the abandoned Shopko store in CDA from 1 pm to 2 pm. Hundreds of Trump worshippers will descend upon our beleaguered burg to call our Republican governor a communist, cry about the loss of their freedoms and contract a deadly disease. Expect Heather Scott, Idaho's Worst Embarrassment, to grace us with her presence.

Needless to say, I'll be taking a route to work on Sunday that doesn't pass that rally.

How we know Thrillist is completely useless

The title of this piece is "The Best Stoner Movies on Netflix."

https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/best-stoner-movies-on-netflix

In it, we find:

Cheech and Chong: Up in Smoke (1978)
Cheech and Chong's first full-length movie is straightforward stoner slapstick. The duo smoke up, veer into the real world, and wake up under the thumb of the law. They smoke at home, they smoke at concerts, they smoke in their "Love Machine" Chevrolet Impala, they smoke in court. Small joints, big joints, oversize clown joints: anything goes. And when lawmen come a-knockin', Cheech and Chong smoke their way out of danger. In the 40+ years since, stoner comedies have gone soft compared to Up in Smoke's rambling sense of defiance. Really, there's never been a more carefree attack on the establishment than these two desperately traversing LA for a good hash.

So...uhh...how do you watch that movie and not know the whole plot of the thing is "two hippies unwittingly smuggle three tons of marijuana out of Mexico"?

The best line in the whole movie: While sitting in a van "made entirely of high-grade marijuana" discussing the cannabis shortage this van was being driven to LA to alleviate, Chong said to Cheech, "somebody in this town's gotta have a lot of smoke."

Your detrumpification ideas, please

After Trump is defeated, we must work to ensure that something like this never happens again.

My first thought: One big problem we have with this administration is the amount of responsibility he's given to his children. I do not believe Trump would be pulling half the stunts he is if it wasn't for Ivana's children and his daughter's husband egging him on. And the only reason he can have them in the building in the first place is they're not officially being paid for being there.

To solve this: We create a carveout in the federal anti-nepotism law for one person and put the president's spouse on the federal payroll at the paygrade of GS-12. Next, we put White House interns on the payroll at the paygrade of GS-7. Once this is done, we can implement a law that states no one can work in the Executive Office of the President in any capacity if that person is not on the federal payroll.

Idaho's Worst Embarrassment: COVID quarantine order "like Nazi Germany"

https://bonnercountydailybee.com/news/2020/apr/19/scott-likens-order-to-nazi-germany-7/

SANDPOINT — Outspoken state Rep. Heather Scott is drawing criticism for comparing Idaho’s stay-at-home order to the Holocaust and referring to Gov. Brad Little as “Little Hitler.”

Scott, a Republican from Blanchard, made the remarks on a Zoom interview with Jess Fields, a podcaster from Huston.

Scott said state determinations of which business are essential and can remain open and which are nonessential and must stay closed was akin to the tyranny exhibited by Germany during World War II.

“That’s no different than Nazi Germany where you had government telling people, ‘You are an essential worker or a nonessential worker and the nonessential workers got put on a train.”

For extra entertainment, this hideous wretch claimed the death toll wasn't so bad because abortion is worse.

Needless to say, her county's Human Rights Task Force is not amused by her actions.

Derek Lowe's latest blog post: "More small molecule clinical data against Covid-19"

https://blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archives/2020/04/16/more-small-molecule-clinical-data-against-covid-19-as-of-april-16#comment-316629

Summary:

1. Gilead Sciences was preparing to do two remdesivir trials in China. Both have been suspended. The trials look like they would have been legit (randomized, double-blinded and placebo-controlled) but the inclusion criteria was steep: patients had to have no previous therapy with any other experimental agent to enroll. Which means there's no one left in China to enroll.

2. There was a multicenter hydroxychloroquine study in China. This one had a control group, but the study was open-label (meaning everyone knew who was getting what). 75 patients received standard-of-care, and 75 received standard-of-care plus HCQ. The trial's endpoints were negative test results; the two groups had "statistically indistinguishable" numbers of negative tests.

3. There's a retrospective HCQ study from France that Didier Raoult was not involved with. (Just so you know, Raoult gives everyone HCQ then brags about how well it works.) Once again, the HCQ and control groups were recovering at the same rate.

4. Another retrospective study from Guangzhou and Hong Kong. This one tested three antivirals and chloroquine against standard-of-care. No differences were seen between groups.

All this seems to point to the only proper treatment for Covid-19: forget about the coronavirus infection, treat the diseases it brings in with it, and spend your time working on vaccines.

Governor extends stay-home order to April 30 (Idaho)

Source: Coeur d'Alene Press

Gov. Brad Little extended his stay-home order to April 30 during a press conference this morning.

“We’ll continue to fight the coronavirus together and I appreciate your widespread support of your neighbors and your communities,” he said.

Little said efforts to flatten the curve on the virus’s impact on the state’s health care systems are working, but that more needs to be done.

He has made one big change to the original order: retail businesses considered nonessential, but who can provide curbside service or delivery, and that doesn't violate the law or ignore social distancing and hygiene mandates, can reopen immediately.

He also announced that most out-of-state visitors will be required to self-quarantine for two weeks after arrival. People who live in Idaho and work in another state, or live in another state but work in Idaho, will not be required to self-quarantine.

You will absolutely believe this: Trump considering pardon for "Joe Exotic"

"Attempted murder? It's not like he killed somebody."

"Joe Exotic" is apparently one of the "stars" of the new reality show "Tiger King," which another DUer has described as "Duck Dynasty on meth."

This individual, whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage, is currently doing 22 years in federal prison for seven gross violations of the Endangered Species Act, a slew of other animal law violations, and attempting to hire a contract killer to murder one of his enemies. Four of his ESA violations are for shooting tigers dead, so...well, even if he hadn't tried to have someone whacked he's not what most of us would call a clean-cut all-American boy.

Apparently Our Great President believes 22 years is just too long to rot in prison for shooting four tigers and trying to have someone whacked, so he's thinking about pardoning this scumbag.
